Hello:
We are excited about your interest in State Department Federal Credit Union! To qualify for our lowest qualifying rates we typically look for a credit score of 720 and higher. We also compare your outstanding debt in relation to your income along with credit history. These factors collectively determine approval. We utilize Experian credit agency when reviewing credit. When applying for our credit products, a hard credit pull is done which usually can affect the score by a couple of points. However, a hard credit pull is not used to open up membership or an account with us.
If you have any additional questions, please let us know. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you!
Sincerely,

Here's what I can confirm with you all about SDFCU. No there isn't an HP for membership, just a soft under the name Andera (Equifax). As for the secured, at one point a long time ago during my rebuilding stage I was tempted to get one. I spoke with a CSR and she told me that if you apply online for the secured card that it *may* result in a HP. So she recommended that I call in to apply. She said that the secured card is completely guaranteed because it's backed by the money you put in (duh). In her defense though there are many cards that still won't give out a secured card based on your credit history.
Okay and for their regular CC's, I have a Visa with the emv chip that I opened in either Apr or May for $8K @ 8.99%. They pulled EXP and they gave me exactly what I asked for and an after thought was that I should have asked for more! It wasn't instant and took maybe 2 or 3 days for approval. All docs were signed electronically which was cool so no snail mail needed. The card took about 2 weeks to get...heck I had forgotten about it till I got it in the mail because it had been so long. So they are not the fastest processor at all but overall a good CU.
@Rhaeny: Thanks for that detail. Do you happen to remeber what your score was at the time of app?

Ha!! A lot lower than yours!!!!! LOL!!!
I think at that time EXP was 717.
Thanks for the info. I am def keeping them on my radar for 2014.
I like how there's not a HP to join. I may open an account and let it grow a bit over the next several months.
