I had a SDFCU secured card for 2 years with a $4000 limit. It never graduated. I closed it. I then got a preapproval for a unsecured card.

@House1204 Thanks for the info. I've seen quite a few people state theirs didn't graduate as well.

I got the secured card right after CH7 discharge in January, 2021.  Secured for $500.  My card graduated 12 months later and they doubled my CL to $1000.  In January, they doubled by CL and now my CL is $2000.

@ncogngro Do you know if there's a hard pull just to join and then another for the credit card app?

Unfortunately, there is for both.  I joined in August, 2020 and app'ed in Dec, 2020

@ncogngro Thanks for the data points, I have searched and I get mixed answers. I think I'll hold off on them then because I don't want any more INQ.

Secured cards with a limit over $5000 won't graduate so I reduced my limit from $6500 to $5K about a week before it would be reviewed.  It didn't graduate. I'm going to give it one more year. I'll close the account if it doesn't graduate next year. The review is only done once per year.

Re: SDFCU Secured Card Graduates?

Sorry I'm so late coming to the party on this thread.

My $3,500 CL secured VISA with SDFCU graduated at about the 13 month mark.  At 12 months, I phoned to inquire and was told that it is reviewed automatically on a monthly basis and that mine should be reviewed in about three weeks from that time.  IIRC, about two weeks after that call, I received the notification and logged in to find the available funds in my savings account had increased by the $3,500.

The woman on the phone did tell me that if in about a month it hadn't graduated, I could call to speak to a lender.  So that might be a good route to take.  It couldn't hurt.

A little after the two-year mark (one year after graduation) I requested a CLI to double my limit.  I recall it was a bit of a process to do that... I believe I needed to upload a paycheck stub.  Nothing seems to be automatic with them.
