SDFCU inquiry sensitive?

During my recent app spree, I applied for an unsecured SDFCU card. Just got the letter in the mail yesterday. DECLINED - too many recent inquiries. That was the only reason.

They don't graduate secured cards, so I'm closing mine tomorrow. That card is SD'd anyway, since the rewards on my other cards work better for me. I've had that secured card 13 months now. It should hurt to close it, right? It's only a $500 CL, zero balance, and my overall util right now is 21%.

Starting Scores: (4/16/12 lender pull) TU 596 | EX 550 | EQ 576
Current Score (9/3/15): Wally TU 639 | Amex EX 628 | DCU EQ 639
Goals: Homeowner as of 9/27/2013. Last app 8/1/15. TU-5; EX-16; EQ-13. Aiming for ZERO inqs.

Re: SDFCU inquiry sensitive?

I think the question depends on how many HP's you racked up in your recent spree. And I would have got my money back on any secured cards the moment I got approved for unsecured cards with decent limits, which seems to be your case.

Re: SDFCU inquiry sensitive?

I believe I have just under 30 on EX, which is what they pulled. Had an app spree last November, car purchase in December, mortgage apps in July, then this recent, post-closing spree. SDFCU was one of the last cards I applied for. Maybe it would have been different if it were the first?

@watch44 - Yup, that's actually what I'm doing now. I just got those decent limit cards in the last 30 days. Smiley Happy

Re: SDFCU inquiry sensitive?

You might want to send them a letter explaining the inq's for mtg, car etc. IIRC, another poster faxed in a letter after a denial and the recon was successful.
YMMV

@lexie

Thanks. I may try that. Having second thoughts about adding another TL, though, since I'm gardening and don't really need it.

Re: SDFCU inquiry sensitive?

That's up to you and the inq hit will not hurt as much as the ding to your AAOA.

Just in case you think I missed the 'don't really need it' comment.....Shaking my head!
