SDFCU--secured

I'm planning on app for SDFCU secured visa. I currently have no open TLs, and final baddies fall off in March. So this will literally be the fresh start to my credit file.

For those who have gone before me, how long did it take to get your card? How long until it reports? This will probably be my "anchor" since its the first open TL. I just rehabbed student loans with FedLoans, so once they report I'm hoping for a fairly quick trip to the 700 club.

Thanks for feedback!

Re: SDFCU--secured

I have never had a SDFCU credit card.  However, I don't believe they will unsecure.   For your anchor CC, I would recommend finding a CC that graduates.  Perhaps get the SDFCU secured CC and maybe BoA secured CC.   BoA is not the best rebuilder.  However, with your baddies almost off your CR, they should be willing to provide you a secured CC.  BoA normally graduates to an unsecured CC in a year or so.  Plus they are easy to product change to different BoA CC.

Another option would be Cap1 for your second CC/Anchor TL.  They may be willing to offer you a unsecured CC.  However, they may charge an AF.   May be the same for BoA secured, but I would rather have BoA as a permanent TL.

Once you have fully reestablish your credit, you can close the SDFCU secured card.

Re: SDFCU--secured

I've read the same about SDFCU secured cards not graduating, but it's still an option for you.

You can try for the Capital One Journey card (don't have to be a student). That one is a builder/rebuilder with rewards and no annual fee. My DD got it without any credit history.

Keep both your credit and your body in top shape!

Although SDFCU Secured Visa does not graduate its still a good card. They dont pull credit, low APR, virtually no fees, and its a chip and pin. Additionally you can apply for their unsecured card and they will heavily weight your secured card performance on their approval decision.

B of A is a great card but does have approval criteria. Since your baddies fall off shortly I think you will be fine.

Out of curiosity what are your baddies?

Re: SDFCU--secured

I have an unsecured SDFCU Visa and absolutely love this credit union. I was going to get the secured card but applied for the unsecured version. I have a 2012 bankruptcy and got approved.  Excellent card, never had a problem.

One thing with them is whenever you apply for a loan, they ask for the last two pay stubs, for income verification. So far no problems.

Perfect alternative to NFCU.

Please make sure that it reports to all 3 bureaus. I have found that some secured cards from credit unions do not report to all 3 bureaus. Good luck.
