SSA 89 Form?

I have several established cards. I have a card from discover, chase, BOA, Target, and AmEX.

I just received a letter from Citi with this form enclosed.

Has anyone received this? Is it simply to verify identity?

Re: SSA 89 Form?

It's the verify your SSN belongs to you and record of when and where it was issued so yep essentially to verify your identity...Sometime mortgage lenders throw that one in for kicks

Re: SSA 89 Form?

Thanks for the response.

I am debating filling the form and sending it back. The letter also states that sending the completed form back authorizes them to perform another credit check. This, to me, means another hard pull inquiry.

the possibility of 2 hard pulls for the same card, and a possible denial still, makes me question whether or not it is worth it

Re: SSA 89 Form?

It's odd that they are requiring that. Was your social issued as a US citizen or later as a resident? I know my grandparents had an issue before becausee they didn't receive SSNs until they moved from Mississippi to Missouri, they were born before socials existed

Re: SSA 89 Form?

I would not hesitate based on statement regarding ability to pull your credit report.

They already have permissible purpose undr FCRA 604 to pull your credit report based on your initiation of a business transaction or request for credit with them.

They do not need an addtional permission.

That statement is provided only for cases where there may be a business transaction that arguably does not include any possible need to review your credit report.

It is not relevant in your case, as they already have permissible purpose.
