Re: Sallie Mae...interesting Coding and points

I've found similar near me - my local Super Targets (2 of them within 10 miles) code as grocery stores while my local Walmarts (there are 4 within 10 miles of me, and I'm not kidding) all code as discount stores.

Course, right now it makes no difference for me but it's good knowledge to have for when I get where I want to be.

It used to be a big deal when WalMart started building stores around here. Now, I guess it's just presumed that you should be able to walk between WM stores Smiley Happy

Re: Sallie Mae...interesting Coding and points

Just did the test this weekend and both my local WM and Target code as grocery, WM through self checkout and target through normal check out...that's really good too because those stores were the specific reason I got the SM

I know, right?  I used to make the joke about a Starbucks being on every corner but it seems like now it's Walmart instead.

(True story: there's a Starbucks in the parking lot of one of my local Targets that also has a Starbucks inside of it.  I laugh every time.)

Re: Sallie Mae...interesting Coding and points

FWIW, I've gathered my empirical data since I got the SallieMae card back in late 2012.  I have experienced WalMarts which code as grocery and those that don't.  I've never encountered one where some registers code as grocery and others don't.  YMMV.  I always just use my Target debit card at Target.

Here's my experience with WalMart:

Non-grocery
5276 Palatine, IL

1489 Vernon Hills, IL
2815 Rolling Meadows, IL
2085 Isabela, PR
2308 Lihue, HI

Grocery
1404 Lake Zurich, IL

1735 Wheeling, IL
1681 Mt. Prospect, IL

1413 Crystal Lake, IL

1982 Appleton, WI
2986 Neenah, WI
1430 Oshkosh, WI
1388 Kendallville, IN

4230 Fort Wayne, IN
5025 Fort Wayne, IN
1647 Decatur, IN
3220 St. George, UT
5325 Sandy, UT
2321 Kailua, HI

Re: Sallie Mae...interesting Coding and points

Luckily for me both the target stores as well as the 2 walmart stores I usually visit give me 5% rewards with the SM.

Re: Sallie Mae...interesting Coding and points

If I was lucky enough to have a SM, I would have a hard time shopping at Target... they are more expensive than Wally.... would the 5% still make up for the price discrepancy?

I'd pair it with Cartwheel discounts - yeah, that can definitely justify the trip to Target.

I don't have a SM yet either but that's what I'd do.
