Depends on the pricing in your area; I find I wind up going to both Target and Wal-Mart for grocery as the Super Target near me often has items neither Wal-Mart Supercenters have. It all codes as grocery on SM for me so it's okay (although I hate having to go to multiple stores for everything I want but that's a rant for another day!).

So your Barclays Rewards MC gives you 2x pts as a grocery purchase at Walmart? I'll have to give that a try, I've been using Cap One QS as it's 1.5 pts on everything. I assumed Walmart would always code as a discount/dept store as it did to SM, but I would think Target would code the same way.

Target isn't really that much more expensive compared to walmart. We do have a Walmart "Neighborhood Market", that I think is just all grocery, and nothing else. Supposed to be a higher end Walmart grocery, but I would that store would code out as grocery, but it would think it would  be more expensive to shop there anyways, so might as well stick with Target.

I think I might try that store out and look at prices first to see how much more expensive it is to shop at the Walmart "Neighborhood Market", vs The typical Walmart, just for giggles though

I used to shop at a Walmart Neighborhood Market when I lived in Tucson, and their prices were very good in a very competitive market. They're usually not 'higher end', they just put those in areas were they can't put in a Super Center or the market analysis doesn't justify one. Tucson has a law probiting "big box" stores, stores over xxx sq.ft, so they only have Super Centers outside the city limit and a bunch of Neighborhood Markets inside the city limit.

I have been to that very one Pizza... they are comparable to the Walmart supercenters. Just smaller and a little more convenient... very much like Price Chopper.

I just had a nice surprise today when I looked at my Sallie Mae account. My walmart is a super center Walmart (even have a tire center) but I got 5 points there, coded as GROCERY STORES, SUPERMARKETS. Using my Amex BCP was only giving me 1%. That makes my day..we shop at Walmart and Fryes (krogers) - most months we shop at both..so I have the best of both worlds now since I do get 6% at Fryes.

Yeah, AMEX tends to code Target as a Discount Store so it doesn't count for the BCP.

All of the Targets and "Neighborhood Markets" I've tried so far have coded as grocery stores when I use my SM card. /knock on wood

The only thing that really irks me about the card is that Amazon Kindle purchases don't code as a "bookstore" but I can buy just about anything else from Amazon and it codes as that. Easy enough to get around it by buying an Amazon gift card, though.
