Don't have any experience with Santander, but you already got approved and got the card, so closing it immediately isn't going to do anything positive for you. If you truly find it useless, sure, close it. But for the first year, it's no worse than the Sphere card. Still the base 1 point per dollar, plus bonus categories, and no fee.
I would just keep it for a year since you wanted a card with them anyway, and reevaluate when the fee becomes due. There's no point in rushing to close it.
Is the card worth keeping? It does give 3 points per dollar on groceries, gas and restaurant purchases. So 60,000 points equal a $600 airline ticket or $600 statment credit etc. Something tells me my Venture cash Rewards is better. Well, my credit line is 15,000 on the Venture and Santandar gave 1,800. What a joke. Reminds me of Barclays. Too conservative.
