Scam or something new?

So today, as I usually do 3-4 times a week, I went into Krispy Kreme donuts to pick up my works usual 2 dozen donuts and coffee.

Since June, I have been going in there multiple times a week and I always leave spending between $25-30, for which I am reimbursed by my boss.

I usually use my Chase Freedom card and the manager has always pointed out that he loves the card, the rewards, the color, blah blah blah.

Hes big on money and credit cards.

Well, as I was checking out, the manager kept trying to get me to apply for  the "Krispy Kreme Mastercard", something I didnt know existed.

I kinda shrugged it off, because I tell everyone no to applications lately as my score has taken a Utilization hit and im trying to garden towards an Amex BCE and the Venture at the end of 2016.

As I waited for my soft drink, the manager got someone else to fill out an application, all the while telling the person that the card is new and is being offered at every Krispy Kreme location soon, it can be used anywhere MC is accepted and you can earn a free dozen donuts for every 10 points you get???

The lady was excited and immediately agreed to apply.

It seemed a little odd to me, because I've never heard of this before.

So i came home and searched high and low on google, and I cant find any mention of this card anywhere.

Whats going on with that??

Re: Scam or something new?

Smells fishy to me especially considering there is nothing even remotely relating to a Krispy Kreme MC. Seems odd for a donut chain to offer a MC anyway. You said the manager is big on money and credit cards, well maybe he found a way to satisfy that, by getting cards with stolen information. Just seems really odd, good thing you knew better than to fall for that.

Re: Scam or something new?

I'd be more worried about eating donuts 3-4 times a week.

Re: Scam or something new?

Im honestly kind of afraid to continue using my card there now.

He always always ALWAYS brags about his money and his credit cards and how rich he is and whatever. And yes, hes a donut shop manager but thats not saying he doesnt have money. You never know.

But god, i really hope hes not trying to scam people for their information.

I dont know what to do right now, except be glad I didnt fall for it.

Re: Scam or something new?

The chase link has been found! Retail, electronics jewelry....those make sense to me but general restaurants do not.  I know Hooters existed at one time, but what little I know of this now extinct card is little to none.  Don't even know if it was The restaurant or something else!

FISHAY. I google now for Intel and the closest Krispy Kreme to me. Thanks. Totally craving now. Smiley Very Happy

Re: Scam or something new?

I suppose a call to Krispy Kreme corporate to address your concerns wouldn't be out of line. If it's indeed a scam it needs to be shut down before serious damage is done, we're not just talking about skimming a credit card that can be shut down to prevent fraud, were talking about people personal information. I honestly can't even remember a store having someone fill out a paper application to apply that seems fishy as well.

Re: Scam or something new?

Oh see I didnt even think about that.

I will definitely give corporate a call and see what they can do. Im sure that lady wouldnt appreciate finding out she gave her information to someone who could be trying to steal her information.

If I cant get through to them through a phone call, I guess I will email as well.

And yeah, he literally had a small stack of paper applications, he was so eager for her to apply. My first thought was he had some sort of quota to meet so I brushed it off.

Hmmm.

Re: Scam or something new?

Personally, I'd contact the corporate office to find out more details about their "new mc." They'd be able to tell you if this is legit or not.
