Score jump from 714 to 755!

In just one month, I went from 714 to 755! I was most surprised to get an email from WaMu telling me my credit score had changed in excess of 20 points.

What did I do? I paid my credit card bill twice in one month. The total bill was around 400 dollars, and I paid $380 a week before the statement date, and the remaining balance after the statement date. That brought my utilization from 10%ish to 1%ish (total available credit 4.75k).

Thanks for the tip! I'll be doing this monthly now!

HTG & Welcome to the game-

The real game is to only do this until you don't have to anymore and just PIF to avoid the finance charge.

Re: Score jump from 714 to 755!

That's awesome news!  I received CLI's on all of my cards in the last month and my FAKO went from 689 to 714 (yes I know...FAKO, but hey, at least I can track the trend w/o paying all that money every time!) thanks (I think) to the decreased UTI.  Oh, and that's even after JUST buying a new vehicle and refi another one!  Yay!

Re: Score jump from 714 to 755!

Hi everyone, brand new here.  I've been reading a lot of posts and have learned a lot already. I filed chapter 7 bankruptcy, discharged in June.  I have been able to get Orchard Bank card (300 limit).  My only question regarding utilization is, since I am trying to reestablish credit, is it better to keep the 10% utilization balance or pay in full?  I've heard conflicting info elsewhere, but you guys all seem to know your stuff.    Just want to know if I should be carrying over a balance from month to month or just pay it off.  The finance charge on a 300 dollar card isn't an issue here. Thanks in advance. (This is my only card besides a Target red card which I haven't used yet)..

It is always better to keep your util down. That will help you a lot. You should look into applying for Hooters. If you get that card you might have decent limit to use the card. Try it and see. They seems to be BK Friendly.

Good to hear about the jump.  I don't think I'll be as lucky after the marks I've been making on my CR lately.

Welcome aboard!

In general, only let half or fewer of your cards report. That's going to be easy for you, with only two cards! Smiley Wink So let one report with under 10%, and the other be PIF'd. Once you have 3 cards, let one report still; with 4-5, let two report (max), with -7, let 3 report, etc.

The percentage thing can be hard to do when you're starting with low limit cards, but just be patient. And like the other poster said, the Hooters card is good for getting decent limits while building/ re-building. (Not a Hooters fan myself, but I have to give them credit for helping a lot of people out. No pun intended.)

Also, I'm guessing from your screen name that you work for a hospital. Every hospital I know (at least one that's big enough for an ICU) has a credit union. They are GREAT for loans, credit cards, etc. They're much less profit-driven than commercial banks. You might want to check them out. Let them know your situation with the BK, and see if they have any suggestions. Good luck!

Wow, Just getting these replys.  I must have posted same question in different areas.  Thanks for the info, will check out Hooters (pun INtended) LOL.    I will also look into the credit union, I'm sure we have something.  Thanks,
