Re: Secure Cards that Graduate..which is the best? BOFA all the way

That's awesome!  Do you happen to remember which reports they pulled when applying for the secured card?  Thanks!

I swear CITI never unsecures there cards and I think I am on my final year with them being secured cause when my card expired they sent me a new one like they should but it was only good for one year and this one expires next year. I am nervous that they are just going to close my oldest trade line on me and after that is the FP Bank and I was trying to hard to close that one but with this uncertainty I am thinking I should pay it off and leave it open just in case... THoughts?

Why are you nervous about CITI secured?  Secured cards rarely get closed.

FP is very expensive to keep open and rarely worth it.  If you have no other CCs, maybe you should  wait until you get another.  Consider adding Another secured card with reasonable terms .

Re: Secure Cards that Graduate..which is the best?

Hello-

I have all 3 secureds!!!! LOL

  BOFA Power Rewards Secured

  CIti Mastercard Secured

  Cap 1 Secured

IMO- BOFA is the best. u  can add funds and they are available within minutes.

u can transfer funds and available the next day

best of all- it show an itemized list of what you spent right then and there-it shows as pending

unlike cap 1 or citi where u have to wait till it post to show what

u spent

oh and plus I get rewards with my card- I got 125.00 back already which already covers the 39.00 af

Re: Secure Cards that Graduate..which is the best? BOFA all the way

I got secured WF and Citi cards 2 years ago when I had 3 CAs and a 6 figure 3 y/o paid tax lien. WF and Citi both unsecured after 18 months. WF even gave me a CLI. This was with the baddies still reporting though I did use the cards a lot and always pif. WF didn't hard pull to unsecure but Citi did. Twice. One day apart.  Musta been right on the edge.

I have reestablished credit over the last couple years
so my moniker is, well, rather out of date.

WM Discover $1800, WF Plat 12k, Chase Freedom Siggy18k, Amex Plat (60k H/B), Citi AA EWMC 25k

Re: Secure Cards that Graduate..which is the best?

In my personal experience WF has been AWFUL about graduating my card.  I opened a $500 CL secured card with them in May of 2004.  2 years ago they upped my limited to $700.  I called about 6 months late and asked about graduating the card.  They told me no but I could apply for a regular card if I liked.  I called them again about 2 months ago regarding graduation.... no way... they told me AGAIN to apply for a new card.  I haven't been late on this card since Feb. 2005 when I was once late 30 days.  I have one old collection on my account with a cable company.  The really ironic and/or annoying thing is WF just 3 months ago approved me for a $439,000 mortgage.  They'll let me borrow over 400 grand but they won't graduate my friggin' secured card... figure that one out.  My scores are in the 660 range, utilization at the times of the requests was around 50% and 15% respectively.  I can honestly say I loathe WF credit card services.

Are you saying BofA pulled all three for a SECURED card?  NO bank should pull a CR for a secured card, let alone three.  CU are doing pretty well, surprised none mentioned here.

It is a common practice for banks to pull CR for a secured card.
