Re: secured CC that reports to CRA but doesn't report that they are secured?

Hey Somkey10, There is a place here on Myfico that explains how to dispute medical collection accounts under the Hippa process. I havent done it but I have heard people having good results. You might look into it. 3 years is a long time for someone to keep precise records on a low bill amount like 180$. Might be worth a try to get it removed.  I will look for the link and try to post it if I can find it. I know someone has it in their signature line but I will  have to look for it. Good luck.

PS My credit union offers a secured credit card with 5% apr that will unsecure after 18 months if your credit file isnt too bad otherwise it remains until your credit file meets their minimum requirements. The only other thing is they now require proof of income. You might look closer into some credit unions. If nothing else get out your phone book and look under credit unions and start calling them. Find one that has what you want and then start looking for a way to join it. I have found it works better to find a credit union that offers what you need and then hunt for a way to join it rather than seeing what credit unions you can join easily and then seeing if they have anything you might need or want.

Thanks okiesean-
I just recieved an unsecured CC and am hoping to get another shortly.  I'm going to see if I can go the unecured route, as I'd rather not tie up my money, but will join a CU soon. I'm going to be utilizing the HIPPA Process shortly, as it's worth it to get it off my CR as it is my only collection.  Thanks for all your info and for taking the time to contribute.

Re: Secured CC that reports to CRA but not as secured? *UPDATE*

I was told that Wells Fargo does not show up on the credit report as 'secured' ; however, I recently received my secured WF visa and after a month pulled my EQ score on myfico and saw that WF had 'secured' on there. I am disappointed by this especially since the WF rep told me over the phone that the account would not be listed as secured. It is possible that if I pull my report directly from EQ or TU and not from myfico, it may not have secured. I'm not sure. These cca are hard to guess sometimes. Do your research thoroughly if you want to avoid a card that shows up as 'secured.'
