No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I've been referencing myFICO for the past year, but this is my first "posting". What does one do to try to rebuild bad credit, even after an application for a Secured Credit Card was denied? What are some reasons for the denial of a Secured Credit Card? It is hard enough to confront these "skeletons of the past" but to keep having them affect you as you try to move forward can be VERY daunting. Any feedback would be very helpful.
Thanks.
Hello kdg, welcome to the forums!
Rebuilding your credit is kind of like a root canal. It's painful now, but it pays off over the long run ten times over. It might seem overwhelming at first, but thankfully your friends here at MyFICO are more than happy to listen and help as much as possible.
I'd start by pulling both CRs from here, and the EX report from them (though you can't get the score anymore, I believe you can still access the report itself). Look over each negative item and assess its accuracy. If it's a valid item, try sending out GW letters and PFD letters. The worst they can do is say no, and you're no worse off than where you are now. If you see anything inaccurate, you should dispute as "Not mine".
That's the first step. The second step is the land of DVs, and MOVs. Those are handy if inaccurate items come back as Verified when you dispute.
THank you for your quick response. I can guess that CR's is short for Credit Reports, but I'm hoping you can clarify the other abbreviations:
EX's
GW
PFD
DV's
MOV's
Thank you,
kdg
