Secured card deposit question

If I deposit say $300 does that mean I'm only good for $300 in transactions ?

I know stupid question but I want to make sure...I won't be using it much ..just trying to build my credit up again.

For most cards, that's correct. Your deposit amount will be your credit limit.

Some cards might offer a smaller deposit (like $49 for a 200 line from Cap One, in theory) - but most cards work exactly like you described.
