I like my card lineup and they mostly have pretty good limits, so I don't even think I'll need/want to seek CLIs. Although the idea of adding the Venmo credit card pops up in my head every now and then, it's not something that I'm actively planning on. We'll see if the stars align and I decide to move forward with that. Otherwise, the only thing I plan to do differently in 2024 is give more purposeful spend to my Discover It card. It was pretty dormant this year and didn't see much spend. In 2024, I'll pay more attention to the 5% categories and be sure to take more advantage of them.
New update to my 2024 strategy based on new information. I will ABSOLUTELY plan to add the PNC Cash Unlimited card. I didn't see a way to apply for it right now, but a call to PNC revealed that the card is not rolled out in my state yet, but is expected to be in the first quarter of 2024. So forget the Venmo, this is my next goal card. Only potential challenge is that PNC pulls Experian, and I have something like five inquiries on EX right now that won't start coming off until May...
PNC Cash Unlimited goal achieved! That's my 2024 strategy taken care of. I will be immediately transfering all of my Quicksilver spend to this card and sending it to the sockdrawer. The Discover will also be out of the lineup, except for the occasional useful 5% category. I'm glad to FINALLY have a flat 2% card; it was the one thing missing from my wallet.
My plans have kind of changed.
I am now contemplating one carding the CS Amex Plat with anything that can be apple pay'd on the apple card and the united gateway as the visa of my set up.
Flights are going to be my biggest travel expense this year/next year. So I am evaluating if keeping the Hilton Aspire is gonna be worth it or rather if the Hilton earnings are worth my time.
Still gonna close the Amex Gold, Wyndham Earner +, and BoA Premium Rewards this year.
Discover IT! card is on the chopping block kinda, I do want to see what happens with the Cap One + Discover situation. The Apple Card is as well, it really depends on where that goes on whether I keep it.

Fed 24. However, I'm looking to get in with Chase starting Ink Biz Unlimited, however since I denied from opening a personal checking/savings acct for the $900 promo bonus, I doubt I will be holding a Chase any time soon. If not I'm looking to open another Biz CC that I can hopefully to a Balance Transfer to. I think US Banks will be my only option, however they are a relationship bank, than I don't have a relationship with.
April 24. Planning to us the NY state 5 year pluge law to hopefully get rid of this CO on all my reports. (Steps are in play now to make that happen).
Apr 24. Close Prosper card before AF hits. Hands down the worst card I even held.
May 24. With hopefully updated profile, I can apply to the CSR, if not I will stay in the garden.
June 24. Close my Grow Credit LOC. (Credit Builder) before new yearly contract, would be have been open for 3 years.
Late July/Aug 24. Close my Self Card just before the AF hits. This is the last of my secured card opened for 3 years.
Sep24. Us the NY state 5 year pluge law to hopefully get rid of a '30-day late' on paid car loan.
Nov 24. 3/24. Maybe open up Charles Schwab AMEX platinum 🤔, if I'm not in with Chase.
I'll be moving cross country in the summer, that is about how far I'm going to plan.
Year round goal for all my cards below $5k, is to work on getting some CLIs. Currently working on my Cap1 Savor1, but Cap1 is being ...like Cap1.
So far besides the amonth of HPs I taken, this year is tuning out to be good so far (triple pull for the CFF😶 on EQ, TU and EX, and 3 HPs between 3 HELOC lenders I'm looking into on TU/EQ)
I opened up two BIZ cards, AMEX BBC and the US Bank Biz Plat for a 0% BT since getting in with a Chase Ink was not going to happen in Q1.
I did get into the Chase Ecosystem finally with the CFF, not the CSR/CSP as opted to app for a card with a lower credit score requirement for better chances, but I learned they care more about your household income to available credit ratio.
I cancel my Prosper card with no problems, now I need to start working on this NY state pruge.
@Zoostation1 wrote:I don't really want to manage more than the 5 cards I've got, and I'm pretty content to keep my current mix of both cash back and points. I'm hoping to stay in a holding pattern for 2024 now that I've got a decent set up. I just plan to keep the rebuild progressing (keep PIF) and just garden with what I've got . As for my goals on each card it's really just CLIs on 3 of them, but am tempering my expectations.
- Amex BCP - try again for a CLI after I've hit 12 months of having this card. I was denied at 7 months. This is likely a pipe dream and I'm probably stuck at $5k until the BK7 falls off in 4 years, but will try again as there's been the extremely rare DP of a CLI with a BK7 reporting.
- Savor One - After a small CLI in May 2023 and a reallocating $1200 from QS to this card in July it's at $4500. This is another card I'll attempt a CLI on and still gets regular use as my primary dining and uber card. I'm not expecting much as this card does appear to be in a relatively low bucket.
- Venture X - I'll probably make my first CLI attempt on this late winter/early spring around the 7 month mark or so. Although I was on the low end for approvals I don't see this being in a low bucket. It's getting regular usage and I'm letting it report my statement balances organically, but I just don't know if I'm putting enough spend on the card to get movement from Capital One. I'd be happy to get it from the min $10 kto $15k (it seems like most VX cards all have CL's that are in $5k increments, I don't see anyone with $12k or $23k etc).
- Quicksilver - I don't really have any plans for this card 2024. It's now been relegated to just a few recurring subscriptions that would be better served putting on the VX, but this is an easy way to keep it active and I'm not too worried about losing 0.5% given that it's not a lot of spend.
- Discover: This is another low limit card but got a CLI on it in Oct so no real plans for this one in 2024. I typically now only use it for a few random non-grocery transactions per month. Currently using it for paypal due to 6% offer that'll be expiring at the end of Nov.
If all goes as planned and I don't apply for anything I'll be down to 2/24 (not that it matters too much since I'm not looking to get into Chase cards and they generally wouldn't approve with a BK reporting anyways.
Whelp, so much for not applying for anything. Updates for my 2024:
Time to garden, garden, garden. 2/12 now, will be back to 1/12 in a few months. Eventually will consider adding a card from NFCU but that's just to diversify if the C1 and Discover deal goes through.
So I closed the Wyndham card last week, I am waiting for the CS Plat's AF to post so I can close it, going to product change to the United Club from the United Gateway. Closing Gold when the AF posts, BoA same, letting the Discover die from non use, same for the Schwab investor card.
Apple card is in limbo till we find out who gets it. Might move the credit limit on the CFU to the united card and then let it die from non use as well.

So what is going to be your main setup? United Club + Hilton?

likely going to 1 card the united club card, Hilton Aspire will be used for hilton stays and the National Emerald club benefits. I am going to keep the hilton combo as my main until the end of may and then use the Club card exclusively till the end of the year and compare points accumulations and see which works best as my main set up.
I have found that making flights cheaper is the better move for my travel style.

Nice! I get that. I'll be revamping my main setup next year a bit as well. Currently Hilton Surpass is my daily until I hit $15K in spend, but after I exhaust my points and the fnc in a planned UK trip next year, I may end up going back to making my flights cheaper setup too.
If you are going to keep one Amex card long-term though, do you think your Investor Card or the no-fee Honors would be best?

I mean im keeping the aspire for the near-long term as the credits cover the cost, and really there is not much differnce domestically between the brands.
The only Schwab card that I would recommend is the Schwab Platinum as its just better than the vanilla. My issue with the investor card is just that it isnt competitve, the CFU is just better in every way.
Im keeping the base Hilton just cause it does have that good all around card with gas/groceries/dining also 0 annual fee. So if you already have the Surpass, I would just downgrade it or move the limit to your BCE and close the Surpass unless you downgrade and keep it for a surpass/aspire upgrade offer.
Move your MR/UR points to one of the Avios programs for extra availibility for international oneworld redemptions or pick up one of the chase avios earning cards or maybe one of the new Qatar card's if they have decent earnings for non AA one world flights.
Since I cant edit my last post.
I have closed 2 cards so far this year. I closed my Wyndham Earner+ back in march and I closed my CS Amex Plat yesterday. I am also going to close my Amex Gold next month or whenever the AF posts.
The BoA Premium rewards card will be closed once the AF posts as well and then I will also closed my BoA bank account as I dont need it.
I am trying the United Club card for the next year and will likely downgrade it back to the gateway to keep for my non amex no ftf visa as I am not going to be tied to one airline program and will just fly whoever is cheapest.
Letting the Discover die from non use, going to likely let the schwab investor card die from non use as the CFU is the same card but better.
The Amex Hilton Honors base card I might let die from non use as well.
Secu Card stays as its my oldest account and is a fine back up card with a 1% ftf and a travel notification system that works.
Hilton Aspire stays as I dont mind Hiltons and like the National Executive status and the Amex Plat level travel insurance stuff.
Apple card I might pivot back to as my mobile wallet spending card of the last 6 months of the year with the CFU being my primary card for the last 6 months of the year.
