True no mobile wallet (f* people who say "Apple Pay" by default instead of an inclusive term) support is unfortunate, but this is also the case for other Citi dept store cards, like Macy's and Best Buy. You can add them to pretty much every specific mobile app however (haven't encountered any I couldn't), so don't confuse mobile apps with mobile wallet (also, it HAS SYW mobile app, so download it?) And oh noes, I can pay all of them by debit card... I'll take the 1% extra cash back as compensation for it being one of three physical cards in my wallet, thanks, making it a 2% everything/6% gas/4% dining& supermarket card before any offers or deals even figure in.
If you can't make it work after deciding to apply AFTER all the data points outlining everyone's ups and downs with it, that's truly on you.
It's not a "starter" card. It's for "next-level" MyFICOers who can handle timing spend and tracking emails for offers. I would never recommend this card to a credit card "beginner".
Hell, I reread the mega-thread every now and then from the beginning as I have more and more context for the data points various people experienced.
This card is amazing. Feel free to cancel it. The less users it has, the less likely it is to get nerfed.
You sould like a chaser of fake lawsuits...."beginner" You mean go to the website and chase down Taco Bell, Dominos, etc or the coupons they offer? Did you try to sound so advanced and yet came out as a dunce?
I'm not the one unable to use the Quote function correctly.
Also, the only time I've ever been to the SYW website was when I applied for the card. If you're going to the website, you're doing it wrong. As I explained. Exhaustively. There's an app you continue to choose to be stubbornly ignorant of.
Got it "genius" so no moible app or apple/google pay but an app to DL to get quotes that didnt have any use for my spending? Yeah must for the advanced Sears shoppers as you explained so "exhaustively"
Card doesnt work for me SORRYNOTSORRY
Lets go to the other website
@coldfusion wrote:I'm certainly not mad, but then again I averaged just over 9.5% cashback in aggregate across the $21K of spend on my TYP earning Sears card (it started out as a Sears charge card back when I was in college and I was in the 1st wave that Citi converted to Mastercards when they took over the portfolio in 2003) in 2024. FWIW, Citi has been throwing me these types of offers since 2018 for gas, grocery, restaurant, online, utility, travel, and sometimes even non-category spend and while unfortunately the card hasn't been working out for you it sure has for me.
It's clear from the mega-thread that some people are getting a great deal of value from this card. It obviously takes a little work (and some time to get the good offers) so, as @unsungivy says, not a card for beginners.
That's true for a lot of cards, I am reminded of posts we used to see here from people who had got Amex MR cards, and had no idea how to use them "properly" and would complain about the lousy value they were getting cashing them out (after a large AF).
And some of the SYW critics are very pro high AF travel cards, and some SYW proponents see little value in those cards (for themselves)
While there are cards out there that probably no-one should have, SYW (and Amex MR for that matter) can work well for the right person. If it sucks for you, you probably shouldn't have got it!
@odd_dog wrote:For me the issue is that people that like this card call it CASH BACK which it IS NOT....it is "gift card" back, that is way more accurate. I love cash back that I can put in a bank account not gift cards. Not every card is for everyone, but I feel reading posts about this particular card is they miss label it as CASH BACK and it is not...
You are right that the base "cash back" is indeed in points which you spend on gift cards. But the people getting the most value out of the card are talking about the extra offers on top of the base amount. I don't think anyone is promoting what an amazing gas card this is at 5% points back, or restaurant 3% card. It's not bad, but nothing special.
But typically the extra offers are rewarded in statement credits. At least the ones that I have gotten have been.
So this 10% for grocery/gas/restaurant spend of $1000 will give me a $100 statement credit. The 10% for $1000 of online spend will also give me $100 statement credit. And then on top of that, I'll also get the 5% for gas or 3% for restaurant/grocery as points. If I'm really good and get all of my grocery/gas/restaurant spend to count as online too through the use of apps (I'm not that good yet), then I would get $200 in statement credit and $30-32 in points (depending on how much was gas) for the $1000 spend.
I would not be amazed with the $30-32 in points, but I would be pretty dang happy with the $200 in statement credit. Since it's a statement credit, I can't deposit it in my account, so I guess it's also not really "cash back". But it means that I don't have to pay as much on the bill, so I keep $200 in my account that I otherwise would have had to pay.
Maybe I'm doing a lot of over thinking to make it make sense to me, but in my mind, statement credits count as "cash back". I'm not a travel guy, so it's what I use all of my points for anyway except for when I get more value doing something else. Like Citi Double Cash where if you pay with points you don't get the extra 1%, so it makes more sense to deposit them and then pay. Or Discover which gives you extra % off on gift cards. Other than those two cards, I always use the points to pay the bill anyway.
Granted, I haven't had the card for a long time. Maybe there's more offers that pay in points than I realize. The only one that comes to mind is the 250,000 points for $1000 online spend, which is one of the best offers. Getting $250 of gift cards for $1000 spend is pretty dang good, and of more value to me than any other card would give me for $1000 spend, but you're right, it's not cash back. But that's the only offer that I can remember getting that wasn't a statement credit offer.
But that's the most important part is, "of more value to me". Maybe it wouldn't be valueable to you. If straight cash back is your thing, and statement credits don't = cash back in your eyes, then maybe this card would "suck" for you too.
It would be cool if the title of this thread was "I'm just hating this SYW card.." in contrast to the mega thread that says "I'm just loving the SYW card". Both are just opinions on the card, and everyone's opinion is going to differ depending on what is important to them in a card.
I don't think that any credit cards suck, they just might not be right for ME. Ok, well maybe Credit One cards suck, but you get my drift. ![]()

Took a look at the praise thread to see what this card was all about. Seemed like lots of planning and receipts from daily visits to fast food establishments lol. To me it appears like the kind of card that would encourage spending you may not ordinarily make, or at least not at that accelerated pace. Kind of like a SUB that never ends, but probably averages less than a series of SUBs in the long run. Having to redeem a portion of that for gift cards also is annoying and less valuable than cash back, which can always go straight into the stock market or bonds and start making returns right away.

Fair. I definitely time some of my spending around those offers now. Sometimes this means that it justifies higher spend now for more savings overall, and sometimes just makes a big purchase you reeeeallly want to make hurt less *looks at Litter-robot*.
In a way, it keeps the "credit card game" going all the time, without additional hard pulls etc 😜

I haven't been using my SYW card much due to meeting a Welcome Bonus spend on another card but I did manage to make 5 $75 payments to my utility companies (mostly water) for $50 statement credit. 6.67% cash back (~7.67% if we are allowed to count the base 1% SYW point earnings) ain't spectacular, but also nothing to sneeze at. In the past, I have stacked this 5 $75s with 'online' spend offers (paying my utilities online counts as online for me) and the 10% statement credit offer on $500 utility spend. Easy to do with organic spend, even if I overpay my utilities a month or two in advance.
@AzCreditGuy wrote:This board has been great getting credit information and feedback on cards, but the SYW card sucks. The posts I see about this card make it seem like a great card. For my needs its not and the CB that I thought I would be getting I am getting from other cards.
The card has zero mobile app support.
The card can not be added to apple pay.
You cant download statement in PDF to see your promos?
This card is as bad as a BMO bank account and applying for a CC with them. Wish I would have applied for another CITI card and not this one
I agree that the card sucks. I can't remember all the little things that bothered me about it, but I remember hating that my rewards were in 'gift cards' instead of money. And when the big bonus offers came in they required huge amounts of spending which were entirely unrealistic. I closed the card after a few months; found it that annoying.

They are old news and the thread should have been canned long ago, just like other threads in the past.
Talk about an "echo chamber"......
I agree. I don't know why the thread has been allowed to go on and on like that.
