Except that you are wrong. Statement credits are real cash back.
- Statement credits are cash back as long as you have a offer of spending a certain amount every statement, to receive that cash back. Its a true gift CREDIT CARD not cash back. I converted my pts to a gift card mastercard in order to add it to my apple pay in order to use that cash. This card sucks, I still stand by that and the mods changed the title...Not me...I am just being honest and the card wasnt the right choice for me
If I threw out this card's point earning and looked at it as only a statement credit offer(s) card, it is still my highest earning cash back card.
Not the right choice for you, correct. That doesn't mean it sucks. I, personally think the AmEx Platinum card sucks, but that doesn't mean it sucks. Nor would I ever feel the compulsion to start a thread titled "The AmEx Platinum card sucks".
This card's existence and the people dedicating so much time of their lives to it is so annoying. The mega-thread should just be moved to some Walmart forum

This is such a weird take for a discussion forum, where all participation is voluntary.

For starters definitely get being upset with a title change, my guess is it came down to the word sucks, not saying I agree and maybe a compromise word could have been used instead, if anything. It is unfortunate - a thread with a negative title was changed to a neutral title. It sucks.
But as far as statement credits, for me personally, in practice the statement credits have just been reducing what I pay, meaning more money stays in my checking account. Yes it is not the same as cashback, but if I get a $100 statement credit, I can take $100 from my checking account and do whatever I want with it, as if I had just received $100 cashback (and it's already in my checking account) - like if people use cashback to deposit in a HYSA or invest in the market, they could take the $100 from checking and deposit/invest it, would have the same effect.
If I happened to stop spending on the card and paid my balance to $0 before a statement credit hit, then my assumption would be (as has been my experience with other issuers) that my balance would become negative, after which I could request a check. If the card dies, as it looks like will happen soon enough, this may be what happens on its way out. So yes statement credits do typically require spend to more easily redeem, but if one stops spending on the card, it'll get sorted. And if one doesn't stop spending, it doesn't matter.
But, in any case - I can definitely see why people have gripes with the card. I have had issues with fraud detection, with it declining more often than any other card I've ever had. The limit they gave is comically low, even after an automatic CLI, especially with the spend offers they've sent, which require exceeding the limit each cycle to hit. The website experience is the worst I have across all the issuers I use, and I use a bunch so that's saying something. The spend offers are wonky, sometimes they show in the portal sometimes they don't, and when they do sometimes they're in another language. I missed one spend offer by under $50, could have easily done it if not for poor planning (on my part, to be clear placing blame squarely on myself), and definitely had a "this card sucks" moment when I missed it.
But regularly earning 11-16% on organic spend is worth putting up with the frustrations, for me. All I personally do is list my transactions on a spreadsheet for offers I'm working on, right now that means two columns, at the top it tallies the purchases, e.g. =SUM(A2:A100). So I type the numbers in, spreadsheet does the math. I totally get why someone would not want to do this. If that makes the card suck, to them, I agree that it sucks, for them.
I totally understand why people would dislike this card. But anyways, it'll probably be dead within a few months and all these topics will fade away...

I go to make payment of $29, it is says I cant make more than the statement balance. What? So they just want to have a balance instead of putting this small amount?
They recently added "Pending Charges" showing. Are you trying to include those in the current total?
I haven't run into this particular issue, although I CAN tell you that it doesn't want you to make more than one payment a day. It sounds like maybe you should give them a call if this isn't resolved inside of 24 hours.
