  Why is this not considered to be five points per dollar according to the Ritz Carlton  it falls under that category.

The 5 points applies to purchases made AT the hotels, rooms, room charges, food, amenities etc. I'm not sure exactly what this is but I don't see why it would count if it's not a purchase made on the property

OP - purchase a Marriott GiftCard/TravelCard (assuming those could count toward the points if purchased via the hotel or online) and then use it to splurge on your terry cloth bathrobe or sheets as you desire.
