Shopping cart trick...?

I have been debating on trying the shopping cart trick.  I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what the credit score minimums are for this.  I am sitting at a 588 right now.  I was approved for a CapOne with a $500 CL with a 568.  Does anyone think I have a shot for one of these?  I was going to try for VS since it is supposed to be a soft pull.

Re: Shopping cart trick...?

Try express, Jcrew, Ann taylor. If you have decent enough credit you will likely get one of these. I got Jcrew, AnnTaylor $500 limit. My scores are in Mid 600's.

Re: Shopping cart trick...?

I haven't broke 600 yet.  I only even consider trying bc I did get a CapOne card with $500 CL with my 568 score.

Re: Shopping cart trick...?

I don't think I've ever shopped online at most of these stores.  I don't know that I've ever had a pre-approval thing pop up.

I am unfamiliar with the shopping cart trick.  Can someone explain it to me?

Re: Shopping cart trick...?

There's a detailed reference on the how to's but in essence it goes like this:

Comenity backed stores (VS, JCrew, etc) will or may offer pre-approvals with a sp. Go to their website, place a few items in your shopping cart, fill in your personal information ( you should have opt in, no cr freezes, etc) if you see a pre-approval pop up, you can delete your items out of the cart and wait for your cc in the mail. You do not need to provide any billing information.

An acct is established without a hp. This was a summary of how it works, it may not work for everyone and you might have to keep trying.

It a way to get some store cards without getting a hard pull. Add something into the shopping cart and check out. After you fill out your information you should get a popup saying you were pre-approved for their store credit card. It'll ask you for the last four numbers of your SSN and some other minor personal info. When you click okay it should tell you whether you were approved or not. I've read that the sure way to know it's a soft pull and not a hard one is that they only ask for the last four numbers of the SSN.

Re: Shopping cart trick...?

Oh my gosh! I'm a little speachless!!  I just tried for the heck of it and low and behold it worked!  Got approved for a $500 CL!!  Will this $500 go in towards my utilization? Including this card I will have 3 with a $500 CL.
