Called in earlier and was doing just that: Closing it unless AF waived. Spoke to a rep. named Anastasia and she said she can't waive it until posts to the account. She noted her files to call me back 8/17 (AF hits 8/15) and she will waive it.

I'm concerned about them going back on the verbal "they will waive it", what do you all think?

Do you think they are fibbing saying they will or they'll waive it for me?

Re: Should Cap1 get the axe?

I honestly wouldn't risk it. Either they post credit to your account or close it. You can inquire whether you can PC along the way.

I bet they will waive it for you. You have been a good customer and paid your bills. So why would they not? Like I said, I think you should keep it open even with an AF, work the card with some montly regular bills, and see what happens in the next 12 months. I feel they will offer you and upgrade of some sort.

Your credit file has some nice new lines on it now and that shows your work is paying off. So why not? They served you when needed so not let them serve you in a different way - by giving you some nice "perks". They want your business. They may not like only making the "swipe" fee on you, but they are making money.

Use them and abuse them!  LOL...

Re: Should Cap1 get the axe?

LS,

They are not fibbing. I guess Capitalone is tired of losing accounts. They have been in an AF waiving mood lately. I don't know if you remember my post about Capitalone lowering my interest rate and waiving my AF, but Capitalone stuck to their word and sure enough when the annual fee posted, two days later the account was credited back the AF. The rep made the notation for me as well and I even called back to verify that the notes were made.

They really are not that bad of a company, I was having closures remorse not too long ago too. I remember saying if they did not waive the annual fee then its to the shredder it goes. Surprisingly they waived the fee, and all is well in my wallet. Smiley Very Happy

Give them a chance

I think you made the right move here for sure. Well played.

So I have their Venture Siggy Visa with an AF and I have the Chase Southwest Airlines Visa with an AF. Really it is not that big of a deal. The AF amounts are small and the rewards are good.

I do not mind paying an AF for a worthwhile card.

I swiped $180 on the Chase Visa and paid it right away. They have already given me the 50k points for Southwest Airlies.

I swiped $12 on Cap 1, paid it the next day and today - the day after the payment posted, I have 24 miles in my account with them.

They will treat you right, soft you, and upgrade you!
