Should I Recon?

Ok, so I felt good about my $10k instant approval from CapOne for the Venture card and went ahead and applied for the Barclays Arrival +.. and figured, declined. I got the letter from them a few days ago and the reasons why they declined me was something like: too many recent inquiries (i'd say about 7), too many new accounts opened (.. like 6 of them) and the length of history or something, dont really remember the last reason. It didn't say anything about my BK. I have their Reward card with 3k limit for about 6 months or so.. Should I recon? I mean, since they pulled my report already, I might as well give it a try and recon? What do you guys think?

Currently holding: Barclays Reward 3k limit, CapOne Venture 10k, QS 3k, Discover 3.5k, Sportsman Guide 1.5k and Jcrew 1.4k...all of these cards opened between February and June of this year.

Re: Should I Recon?

Considering they don't pull another report, I would think it wouldn't hurt to recon. Also tomorrow is the 4th so that might make them looser in their spirits! Smiley Happy Good luck! (Make sure you have the reasons why you have added so many lately.. as they will need a good reason.)

Re: Should I Recon?

If all else fails in the recon you can offer up either part or all of your rewards card CL to open the Arrival.

Re: Should I Recon?

What does Barclay's consider to many recent and how recent within last year or within last six months?

Re: Should I Recon?

I found this site in the beginning of this year and then start rebuilding. Many great advices on this site, loving it! After i read  a few posts here on this site, I applied for Barclays (end of January) and got their Reward card (approved for 1.3k then called a few weeks later, boosted up to 3k).. and then read about the shopping cart tricks, got the Sportsman Guide, J crew and Express (all mid February). After those approvals, I went ahead and applied for the QS1, and was approved for 3k limit (Beginning of March). Then April, I tried my luck and applied for Discover, approved for 3.5k limit. Also got a 25k car loan at the beginning of June. And finally, last week, pulled the trigger on venture card and was approved for 10k. I recently closed my Express credit card. So I have like 8 inquiries on my reports.

Re: Should I Recon?

Always recon after you've taken the pull! Even with someone like Amex, you should recon, because the rep nearly every time will give you a more detailed explanation as to why you were denied, and what needs to be worked on and what not.

Re: Should I Recon?

Ok now, I am looking at the letter Barclays sent to me and the reasons are: High number of recent credit inquiries on your credit report (around 8). 2) Insufficient number of accounts (ahh the irony...) and 3) High number of credit cards recently opened (isn't this contradicted reason number 2?).  Do you guys think its worth calling them and ask for recon?

or.... I should garden instead?

You already took the hit by applying, so you should recon to try and make it worth it. The worst thing that can happen is they say no. Best thing that can happen is they give you the card. The benefits seem to outweigh the cost in my opinion.
