Got the "your pre selcted to apply" letter from Amex in the mail yesterday, I tossed it in the pile withe all the Discover "your invited to apply" letters as I dont put much weight on them. For giggles I went to the Amex webiste and did their preapproved card search like I have every month for the last year...............only this time I actually had offers!
Gold, Green and Zinc........and the Amex Blue(not blue cash, preferred, sky etc)
I really want to get my foot in the door with Amex. My question is, should I apply for both a charge and the revolver or just one? Will it affect my chances for either if I apply for both? If only applying for one, should I go for the charge or the revolver? I deally I would rather have the revolver but at this point in my credit game just getting in with Amex is the goal.
I applied for BCE and TEcostco and both were approved same day. Hope this helps
Did you call in or do it online?
I applied online and got approvals within a few mins although I was not given my APR I had to wait for that on the BCE 7-10 days. I wish you the best
Yes apply for both because they will only do one hard pull

YMMV on this ~ some people get away with only a single pull, others get hit with two HPs.
Ive been reading the posts on single vs multiple hits on same day applications, guess Im willing to roll the dice. Next question: Which to apply for first, Im thinking Zinc since I probably have a better chance at getting approved for that over the Blue?

Yes, I agree doing the Charge Card first would be best, since they seem to be easier to get than AMEX revolver cards.

Generally if you apply for two of the same type of cards on the same day it will be one pull(i.e. two charge) But if you apply for one charge and one revolver it will be two pulls.
Now, do you want and/or need a charge card? If not don't get one. Do you want the Blue card? If not don't get it. If the Blue is showing in the preselector your most likely good for whichever revolver you want. I applied for the BCP when nothing but charge cards showed for me and was approved. The preselector is not an end all be all. Don't get a card you don't want just to get in with amex, especially one with an AF. They are magic workers, it's just a credit card. Get something that works for you, not just what you think they will give you.
Can you give us a brief overview of your credit? Like any scores, derogs, inquiries, AAoA, UT, what kinds of current accounts and age?
Experian score is 675ish. AAoA is 2.3 years, utilization is under 3%, 4 inquiries one of which is Amex from 6 months ago, 2 paid CO's from 3-5 years ago. However I paid the balance on those in Sep 2011, once I did that it changed the date of last activity. Currently have Cap1 Rewards, Cap 1 Secured, Barclays, USAA Secured Amex,First Premire and Credit One, one car loan through my credit union.
Ideally, id like to get the revolver and close FP and Credit One.
