Yes I suppose I should have said to get them but only use them for occasional charges and pay them in full.
Obviously not a good move if you can’t commit to that.

I can be careful about not over spending most definitly, but I think I'm going to wait before applying for anything new for atleast a few months. May be getting picked up by a police department before the end of the year so that would drastically change income and put me in a better spot before opening new accounts
The bolded section could be read a couple of ways! In any case it sounds like you have positive prospects and a plan, so good luck!

Yes I thought the same! 😂

Yes I wish I knew about my FICO at your age. I am 31 and oldest account (a loan) is 21 months. The more lines you have now serve as a pad for aaoa in the future
And it can add AoOA insurance, too, protecting someone more in the distant future. Someone may have opened an account or two when they were young, but there's no way to know with certainty that those accounts will remain open 10+ years from now. To add additional insurance there, opening a couple of major bank cards early on can increase the chances of having at least one remain (say) 20-30 years from now.

My UTI month to month is rarely more than 10-15% with statements always payed in full. I was considering the second card as breathing room in my credit for the occasional large charge such as car repair
It sounds like you're responsibly using your credit with Transactor behavior, so I see no issue with you adding another card or two if you'd like. I agree with the recommendation above to stay away from store cards. Only go for major bank cards that you know you'll have and use for a very long time.
Congrats on the Discover CLI, BTW. Doubling your limit is nice. The fact that you didn't get a tiny $500 CLI is a good sign and one that Discover may see value in your profile, thus being willing to give you greater/more often CLIs. If I were you, I'd mark your calendar to try again every month or two, however often you feel comfortable. They are always SPs and you can request them online without having to call.
Getting your Discover limit up to (say) $5000+ would really absorb those times like you referenced that $900 car repair recently in terms of utilization.
