Hello,
I just applied for the discover card and was denied solely because of a past deliquency from 3 years ago that's been paid off. My credit score on the application was 709 which I thought was good, I'm not carrying any balances on my credit cards, so why would they deny me on a past mistake. I've heard people have had success with recon's and was wondering how to go about it. Thanks
Discover (from everything I've heard and read) is one of the harder CC's to get
I believe you I just called had a lady look in my account said would need to get that charge off removed and then apply. I told her so I can never get a discover card because of a charge off and she said not necesarily and just flat out denied me.

Is the CO w/Discover or another company? Have you tried to GW it? If you search on the forum for GW or goodwill, you should find some info. Basically, you write the OC and ask them to remove the delinquency from your CR. Since you've already paid it, you can't PFD. But some have luck with GW, though persistence pays off from what I've read here. You'd need to explain why you didn't pay it, so hopefully you'll motivate them to remove it.
Beyond that, it sounds like you already reconed Discover. They are a tougher CC to get and tend to have lower CLs and are stingy w/CLI. Of course, there are exceptions. But generally, that's what I've seen here. If you didn't try a number on the backdoor sticky, you *might* have better luck with that.
