Should I set up Amex Gold in my account using the temporary number?

I forgot to mention it in my post, but mine also worked fine (in Apple Pay for me) and didn't need updating when I got the physical card.

I didn't actually get the physical card till two months after it was issued (I don't live in the US).

After I arrange an order for a new brake caliper for one of the cars, I think I’ll add Gold to Apple Pay. I would add BCP also but i requested the card number upon approval and the screen popped up and immediately disappeared and I never got to see it.

I have never had any issues adding it to my account before physical card arrival. Also I’ve never had any issues adding it to ApplePay etc. It’s a convenient perk AmEx offers and they do offer it...

Only recommendation is to consider holding off on adding the POT featuring the card. Historically AmEx will send some complimentary MRs to add POT if you haven’t enrolled POT yourself after X months. Even if you weren’t planning on utilizing it holding off on the enrollment during the card setup could work out favorably. No guarantees on MR offers but you can search-it’s not uncommon.

You won't have any issues.

I got the temp info right after applying online. Made some online purchases pretty immediately with it.

Physical card arrived. Didn't get around to activating it for a few days. Pretty sure I made more online purchases with the temp card before activating the physical card.

Activated physical card.
No problem using it.

It all worked fine for me - I put the new brake caliper on the Gold using Apple Pay with zero issues. I’ve been leery of using the phone’s wallet regarding the security of the info in there but I’ll probably add at least a few cards to it. I ran to Lowe’s on Saturday and was in line to pay when I realized my wallet was at home. Had my phone with me - had I loaded some cards, I wouldn’t have had to go home and return to buy my stuff 🙄
