So, I closed PayPal smart connect and wanted to re-app

to get the MasterCard.

 

I kept getting an error message:

 

We are sorry, we are experiencing temporary difficulties. Please try again later. If this error occurred while making a payment, avoid duplicate payments by checking your Account Overview before resending a payment.

Message 3005


 

As it turns out, you cannot re-apply for a new credit product with the same email address that was linked to your closed "smart connect" account . You have to create a new PayPal account with a different email address in order to apply for a new credit product.

 

Having said  that, I'm not going to re-apply b/c I bet they would stick me with another useless smart connect account.

That is absurd.    Paypal has a lot of bizarre and strange rules.  

 

However the smart connect now has a 6 months deffered interest deal for all retail purchases over $199.    That I can use.    Not sure I even want a Paypal MC anymore.

What if you got a new Email Address; then changed your PayPal info over to the new Email Address before Apping? 

 

If it's email address specific; it should theoretically work. However: if it's *account* specific; I'd skip it. 

 

Note: I can confirm that if you currently have a Smart Connect acount; then App for the PayPal MC using a different PayPal account; they cross reference your SSN and will decline you, due to already having a PayPal credit line.

I will add that when I received the letter comfirming that my smart connect account was closed at my request, they invited me to re-apply in the future.

 

 

BUT I don't want to start all over with a new lousy smart connect account.

Have you confirmed with PayPal, that it's actually an issue with the previous email address? 

 

If not; when did you close the SmarConnect account? Did you wait for an entire billing cycle, before apping for the MC? 

 

Sometimes you have to wait for a couple of months to clear the system. That way they can be sure there are no pending payments; that may come through (recurring monthly charges, etc).

 

For example: I signed up for the Chase BluePrint on my Freedom card, and checked every possible category; and set it to PIF. Then, I went and made a purchase at Radio Shack. That purhcase wasn't included in the BluePrint groups.

 

After calling Chase; I was informed that the BluePrint categories were "not all inclusive" of all charges. I was told that I could cancel the BluePrint; then switch to PIF after the system cleared BluePront from my online account (supposedly 2 billing cycles). Naturally; I asked to cancel BluePrint. But, it wasn't until 3 statements closed; that I was finally off of BluePrint, and able to set my card to PIF. 

 

That experience alone, was enough that I now have a recurring $14.95 charge (auto PIF) every month. And that's all the action that card gets.

I got the same lousy account.  I love my Paypal debit card but the Smart Connect deal looks useless.  I don't think it will hurt me having a whopping $800 cl out there but it really isn't doing anything I want it to do.  Would have been nice if they were going to decline the Mastercard from Paypal if they asked me if I wanted this account.  

 

I'm also a little confused as to what this product actually is.  I always keep a balance in paypal (Google Adsense thank you) and I cannot imagine a time I would buy anything online using that credit, so I guess its back up funding.  That is unless its linked with my Paypal Debit.  In that case it might be more useful.  

 

Also ,Why do they call it a card when there is no card?  Sounds misleading
