If its a utilization factor, say removing those card would drastically increase your utilization then paying down balances will reverse the effect. I'm not ne for opening new credit that you don't need and pumping up FICOs is really not a good reason unless you have a thin credit file.

Brammy,My daughter put me on one of her cards as an AU for emergencies (her benefit, not mine). She had one 30-day late back in 2005 that is showing on my credit report as hurting my score (according to MyFICO). I have since been removed as AU at my request, but the bank refuses to remove the TL from my CR. Will that 30-day late still count against me under the new rules?Sleigh17, President of the Sleigh center for CC junkies!
If you were an AU the effect on your score will cease once the new scoring system is in place. A joint account is another matter it seems this may be such an account due to the banks refusal to remove it from your credit report.
No, it definitely is AU. The bank says that once accurate info is reported, it is their policy not to remove it. BTW, the card is paid off with a credit balance and it still shows on my TU with a balance equal to 91% util since she maxed it out while on vacation before paying it off. She removed me as AU after paying it off and before they reported, so I may have to dispute it anyway.
