@md_rebuild wrote:I am almost 2 years out of Ch7, and my rebuild has been slow and steady. I immediately got a NFCU Secured ($500) and after some patience and nurturing is now sitting at $7K unsecured, keep the balance at less than 10%.
I also have a 2 Cap 1 QS cards, one at $3.5K and another at $2.5K. I've had these for about 18 months and typically just put one or two charges on them a month, less than 10% and PIF each month. Needless to say, the last attempt at CLI was not successful but that was no surprise.
I just recently got my NFCU up to $7K (latest increase was 2 weeks ago from $4.5K to $7K). Now I'm undecided about the spend. I've heard horror stories about Cap1 being very stingy with the CLI amounts but my last NFCU CLI statement (I've lost the letter) made it seem as if I had maxed out my CLI limit (assume I should check with NFCU to confim). I put at $4.5K spend on the NFCU every month, but not sure if it's time to switch that over to Cap1 and see if they will reward heavy spend with a higher limit or keep it with NFCU and go long-term with them.
Any suggestions?
Also if you're looking for a card to grow at a fast pace Cap 1 won't be the card that will get you there. You're better off staying with Navy. If you want a card to grow fast in a short period of time just for the sake of having a card with a large CL, you're better off with the Macy's Amex card that will grow fast. You can use the card anywhere Amex is accepted and it's a SP when you ask for a CLI. This is just an example of a card that grows fast, can be used anywhere.
There is no discussion for this, cap one shouldn't even be mentioned with the likes of navy 🤣

A 2nd Navy card is a great idea, and you may be able to begin branching out, especially if your scores support it. Perhaps check a few prequal sites and test the waters as well. Good job on the rebuild!
@Anonymous $1every 3 months? SAVAGE!!!! I love it!
Haha yep Amazon gift card reloads. 😎 Do it on all of my cards that I don't use regularly.

Sing it loud! 😅
I've posted a few NFCU-related questions recently, as I am jumping ship for NFCU (see what I did there? Navy? Ship?).
Despite spending $35K+ on Cap 1 cards last year (and paid them back $37K and change), I haven't received a CLI in years, even though 2 of the 3 cards issued have zero balance and my credit is flawless since BK 7 years ago. In short, I don't feel like they value me as a customer anymore and I am seeking greener pastures (or bluer waters?) in the not-too-distant future.
PS: NEVER a CLI on my QS, either, so don't feel bad. Sure, they treated me well 7 years ago when I received my discharge, but I finally realized that I need to start treating them like the subprime lender they are and not like the only game in town...just moved the balance I carried over to Discover, changed my direct deposit to NFCU, and not looking back.
(I do, however, have a respectable CL with them, so will continue to use somewhat...but looking for a new *boo* as I type).

Good for you, I have recently done the same thing. Capital One has pulled their LAST stunt with me and I moved over to Navy Federal on 5-21 and so far it has been great. I already have a NFCU credit card that is over and above the amount of my Capital One cards. I feel the same way about Capital One and I have been with them for at least 15+ years. I have not received any CLI in quite some time and they are not eager to give any lately it doesn’t seem. The thing that finally got me to decide to move right away is that they know what is fair, but they don’t care if they cost you money or the things they do hurt you financially. That’s just the way they roll…
Thanks for all the input, it has been very illuminating and confirming what I expected.
Since the post, I've gone ahead and gotten approved for a car loan with NFCU, so I think that it's just wiser to keep everything with them, nurture that relationshp, and use the Cap1 as a "sock drawer" card.
Thanks everyon!
