Shes has about a 600, thin file, with one derogatory medical bill. Other than that, not much history wise. What card would actually have a high enough limit where I could make payments affordably and still actually have a chance of getting approved? We need this move desparately.

you EACH can probably get anywhere from $300-$1k from Capital One.

YOU can probably recon a Barlcay for $500-$1000

you can probably get a Chevron for $300-$500 - if you get approval from chevron, something like a paypal MC might be a great application... I got $2k out of them and Chevron gave me 600

you have good chance of reconing approval on a chase freedom or slate, bank of america 321 or better rewards.

and i would think citi simplicity or the like would approve because they use to be known to issue out peoples first credit card... recon might be a pain if not instant or if you don't get the call us (that's just verification and usually approved)

i know it would be great to have 1 loan and cash to do the move and 1 payment but unfortunetly you are now seeing that won't be possible so you just need to see if you can get enough cards to give you enough to make the move.... minimum payments will be very small so you should be able to make them for a bit until you get moved and established and then get them paid off because obviously getting a bunch of new cards and smaller cards and maxing them out will bring down your score... but with very thin file, you will actually see a jump a lot faster as these start to report and you get the util. under control.

Well guys, I got denied by my bank and two local credit unions. I couldn't refinance my car because it is exactly 7 years old, I won't be able to touch the Graduate Plus loans until after we get out there, and I have no family on my side or my wifes that can or are willing to help. Springleaf even denied me. Now I have a lower score and nothing to show for it. I have no idea what to do.

you need to come off this loan idea im sorry... and lower score? have you verified changes... just INQ's and no accounts I would doubt you would see much happen to your score.

you have NOTHING to loose now, you NEED to start applying for credit cards and make sure you do it in a proper order because of the INQ's... just keep applying right after another rather you get denied or further processing.

1. theduckcard.com

2. chase slate

3. discover it

4. bank of america

5. citi simplicity or citi aa

6. chevron

List looks good to me.

If you really think Discover won't approve on recon, then don't do it. But you could be suprised.

Current cards: MSUFCU Platinum, Amex PRG, Amex Surpass, Amex BCE, Citi Prestige, Citi Double Cash, Citi Premier, US Bank Cash +, Huntington Voice, AAviator, Sallie Mae, Discover IT, Chase Freedom TU:753 EQ Enhanced: 758

They said due to a lack of history and recent inquiries I was denied and couldn't reconsider at this time.

Sorry, you need a win.

I would apply for chevron next and then capital one (quicksilver one... i know it has af but it's the lower tier card and better chance of approval, you can work on the fee later)

And denied for the same reason from Chase. Are you talking about the Capital One Platinum or quicksilver? I applied for those and got denied. I only have a secured card right now, so I think that's my problem.  Let me try Chevron first.

Did you talk with a Financial Aid officer at the University?  I can't speak for all schools but I once received a "hardship" loan from the University Foundation.  It was $2,500 to cover some costs that would not be covered by my Federal Loans.  The interest rate was 9 or 10%.  I had my choice of paying the accrued interest while in school or adding it to the principle and repayment started 6 months after graduation.  The only requirement was I had to have my FASFA current and I could not be in default with any student loan.  I also had to prove my need for the loan, so I don't know that you can prove a cushion but you can certainly prove your relocation expenses.

NFCU nCashRewards VISA - $20,000 | NFCU nRewards $10,000
AMEX Costco TrueEarnings $5,000 | AMEX Delta Gold $1,500
Chase SWA VISA $5,000 | Chase Slate $3,500 | Chase Amazon Rewards VISA $3,000
HSN Mastecard $3,500

Re: SpringLeaf Financial

I didn't read the entire thread, but if we're only talking a few thousand dollars required, are either of your parents or grandparents in a financial place (and are you in a social place where you can ask them?) for a dipstick IRS-approved loan at 2.79% or whatever the midterm APR is for family loans these days?

Really that's your best option from what you've described and from the CC denials you've had.
