How long have you had that secured card? And what's the utilization on it? There has to be something spooking every lender here
About 3 months. Less that 10% utilization. That card and my on time student loan payments every month. I literally have nothing else. Like I have said. I am so confused as to what is going on here.
@barbaralee wrote:Yeah, student cards, Credit One, even SpringLeaf are designed for people with little to no to bad credit. You started your thread saying your credit is fair, but judging by the rejections I would say otherwise. I would also think there is something else going on your report, whether you are aware of it or not.
I have pulled all three. There is nothing more than all of these hard pulls now. Believe me I know.

+1!
I know guys. I really do appreciate everyone trying to help. But I have nothing bad on my history and no one gives me any reason other than the fact of lack of a history or lack of a lengthy history. It just seems that there is no way to get ahead.
Has your wife tried applying for these credit cards?

Some of them. Since her score is lower and she has one derogatory mark, if I didn't get approved I don't see why more hard pulls would really help at this point.
did you try filing joint(or cosigning - not sure what the term is for CC's)? Counting both incomes? I'm not in a position to have ever needed to try (nor will I probably ever mix credit), but that would've helped..

We have tried for the discover and chase and got denied. Also tried for a loan as well. Same result.

I'm really surprised the accepting University doesn't have a good direction to point you in. They know as an out of state Doc Candidate you're going to have relocation expenses and you will need a way to cover them.
Can you find out who the Financial Aid Officer's supervisor is and contact them for assistance? Maybe if you even provide them a spreadsheet or worksheet without backup documentation they will understand what the request is for and they can help point you to the right lender.
Edited to add:
When you talk to Financial Aid tell them that you cannot attend their school without this funding. Maybe that will push them to dig into their pockets and produce some Grants or Loans you were not being told about.
