Due to my recent success with NFCU I decided to close some accounts.
Started with Credit One, I opened it last year in August. I got the better one of their cards with the 19.9% interest and $45 annual fee, the no grace period was the killer. Was opened with a $500 limit and when I got the card it was up'd to $650. Just two months ago it was increased to $900. I rarely used it though. I called and rep persuaded me to keep it open since I had pay the annual fee, dumb I know. I told him this card had served it's purpose and it was time to let it go. Even offered me a $25 credit to stay I thanked him but said no thanks. Account was closed.
Just right now I got off with Merrick Bank to close this account. Card was opened also in August of last year after receiving a mailer. $700 sl and it would double in 7 months High interest at 25.45% with $48 monthly fee that would be billed monthly after the first year. I thought I would see another increase but nothing so I decided to call. Rep just asked why I was closing the account and I just told him the annual fee and the high interest. Rep didn't even offer anything to me to keep it open so I went ahead and closed it.
So that's it I don't have anymore cards with annual fees. Next is probably the Victoria secret card.
Feels good, doesn't it? I closed three crap cards in April.
Congrats on closing the ugly cards...on a side note.......

If only more people would be firm when calling to cancel their Credit One cards like you. Lol. Grats.
I also got offered $25 credit to keep it open...of course I accepted, closed it a week later.

I guess that's how you do it. I could've done that but that idea didn't pop in my head and I was pretty firm in closing it.

Yeah I still have the chip less card. I asked them when would I get the chip card and they told me they're in the process of shipping them out soon.
Luckily, while I was a credit card noob back in April (I nearly applied for everything that appeared before my eyes), I didn't apply for something that looked like Capital One, even with that swoosh sign.
