I recently was approved for a Discover IT student version (well that's what I applied for) $500.
I was wondering if anyone knew odds and such for other student cards. Very recent scores are EX 644, EQ 606, TU 631.
Want to try and get the proverbial foot in the door with Citi, Chase, Amex but realize with scores like mine it may not be possible. Just wondering what you guys experience is.
FYI and in case anyone asks, I have a Cap 1 Secured, QS 1, goRewards, NFCU secured, store cards, AAOA is approx 2 years.
thanks!!
I was in the same situation about 6 months ago can you join a good credit union like NFCU they would give you a decent card with a high limit with those scores. If not I cant really recommend any of the other student cards i've seen the discover it is the best I would just pay in full for a few months then app for an AMEX etc if your scores gets around 700 they should go up pretty fast.
EDIT: I just saw your in NFCU if you only have the secured card app for cashrewards or any other unsecured card.
I have the goRewards also with them. Love NFCU. ![]()
Just wanted to try and "get in" with those other lenders and grow/garden with them also LoL. Figured it would probably be more of a long shot with those but I thought the same about Discover.
Whats your utilization etc? I have higher scores with a lot less history and was approved for an amex blue card seems weird.
At the moment utilization is around 20-25%, by the end of the month it should be 10-15
I do have a couple of med collections reporting (working on those as we speak). They are 2+ years old at least.
Once your around 10% I would apply also do you have navcheck through NFCU it would lower your utilization a lot apply for the full 15,000 they will either counter with their max for you or accept it.
Tried for NavChek and they declined
. No counter or anything unfortunately. I am going to try again around July or so.
When you say apply....apply for what? Amex? or one of those "prime" lender cards?
I would try amex under employment choose student if that's still true it somehow got me an instant approval.
Even with the baddies and only a 644 score?

By the time you get down to 10% area it should go up some if it doesn't just garden for awhile and try to get to the point where you can pay in full each month.
