I have really been thinking about cancelling my orchard for a while, like someone else mentioned, i was just going to wait it out and see what happens when they switch me to Capital One. I have several other cards with much higher limits at this point, my orchard is just amongst my oldest.

Back in July of this year, I applied for Amex green. I was denied.
After reading forum, I closed my FP and after it reported as closed I hit up Amex green in October and boom got it.
I decided to closed my credit one as well. I'm planning to close bbrzmc soon.
But anything else could have happened with your file in those 3 months. I don't think that's conclusive evidence as the closure of your Credit One account leading to your approval with Amex.
Everybody has to start from somewhere. And some people are of the mindset that they don't want to close out a card, especially if they've had it for a while. And also, wouldn't a "closed" sub-prime account still show that you've done business with "loan sharks?"
As always, YMMV. I notice that many of the unsubstantiated rumors have to do with Amex.
I got approved for an AMEX Platinum when I only had a $500 Capital One card
BUT
I applied for CSP and Freedom the same day-- I spoke to a credit analyst on both cards--- BOTH times they mentioned (with disdain) my $500 Capital One card (24mos old with no credit increase)
Chase denied CSP but approved Freedom with a paltry $500 limit. I had to call 3 or 4 times to get the Freedom CLI'd to $2k.
Theres a little bit of truth in every legend.
Amex just approved me with mid 600 scores and a cap one with a 750 dollar limit.
