(Success!) What should my next steps be

As some of you guys may know, I am new to my credit journey, and I think Im off to a good start with most of my thanks going to you guys and the rest of the forum.

But, Ive been considering to continue expanding my credit profile, most notably to get a Visa rewards card to fill in some gaps and cap hitting that there will be in 2014.

In the next four to six months I'd like to have a Visa rewards card, but am not sure which I should apply for. I would go for the Chase Freedom again, but I was denied back in August. My history is below:

August 2013

- App'd American Express Blue Cash Preferred, - Instant Approval @ $5,600

- App'd Chase Freedom, 7-10'd, two Recon's unsuccessful

  > Denial reason: Too few revolving credit accounts and experience. Chase not taking into account my AU history - Woops.

 - App'd Discover IT, 7-10'd, Reconned and Approved @ $2,500

  > Initial denial reason: Too many recent credit inquiries (2)

September 2013

- App'd Capital One Quicksilver EDIT: MasterCard, Instant Approval @ $1,000

November 2013

- Requested AMEX CLI to $14,000, Accepted instant counter-offer to $7,900

December 2013

 EDIT: - Standing with 2 TU, 3 EQ, 4 EX HP's. 3 Approvals, 1 Denial, 1 CLI.

April - June 2014

-  Have a Visa rewards card added to my mix

Credit Report stats to those who factor in AU's:

FICO: 767

FAKO (TU): 797

No Baddies

Total Credit: 55.4K

UTL: 5%

Hard Pulls: TU: 2, EQ: 4, EX: 4

Oldest Account: 7y 2m
AAoA: 3y 6m

Personal stats:

EDIT: Income - 22k

Total Credit: 11.4k

UTL: Less than 1%

Real world debt: $0

Hard Pulls: TU: 2, EQ: 3, EX: 4

Oldest Account: 4m

AAoA: ~2mo

I wont be applying for any sort of loans or take any action that would have new creditors review my CR for the next couple of years with the exception of CC's, and my scores have survived well (my FICO score has increased slightly [752 -> December 767] due to being recently added as an AU on the PNC 17.5K, Chase 4K). I feel I'll be in a good position in the next few months to continue on building, rather than continuously lower my AAoA and ding myself with hard pulls over the next few years.

In 2014, will hit the rewards cap on 6% BCP Groceries by August/September

Will be very close, if not over the cap on Discover for July-Sep 5% Gas

Will hit the cap Discover Oct-Dec 5% Online Shopping

I would love to have the Chase Freedom, but am worried it would be a waste of another hard pull. Any other rewards Visa recommendations, would be much appreciated!

I would be surprised if you could not get Freedom now but have you checked the pre-qual on chase.com lately to see if you get any offers?

I would also think you would be in a great position to pick up the Sallie Mae Card by Barclay now also and that should help cover your 5% categories.

Hm, Im going to keep that card in mind, though Im not at all familiar with Sallie Mae.

The prequalified section of Chase gives me no results right now Smiley Sad I think it may be too soon to try again today.

Re: What should my next steps be

I'm reading on a few other threads that Barclays pulls TransUnion exclusively. Is this absolutley true? If so, with TU being by far my best report, I could give it a shot even today.

Yes true true true

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

YES and they are fab at recons if for some reason the computer denies or many times just needs a couple verification questions answered.

call instantly if you don't get an instant... number listed in back door threads... goes directly into someone to pull it up instantly.

Barclays..aren't they mostly MCs?

Yes, I've just noticed that. Right now im deciding wheater I should pull the trigger for the Sallie Mae, which im confident that I'd be approved for, or wait some more time and give the Freedom another go.

Re: What should my next steps be

5% cask back on Gas ($250 monthly), Groceries (250 monthly but includes Wally World), and Amazon ($750 montly) is pretty good. Not to mention it's a TU pull and it's 12 months 0%. I would think they would start you out with a decent limit.
