I think the hit I would take to my true AAoA, plus another inquriy would not be worth the ~$35 savings I calculated I would get with it on groceries+gas (being their quarterly cap is 250 per category.) Freedom would give me that, and more.
I would be FREE!... sorry, bad pun.
Chase AMEX Discover
Jan - March: 5% Gas 6% Gro
April - June: 3% Gas 6% Gro
July - Sept: 5% Gas 5% Gas 6% Gro
Oct - Dec: 5% Amazon 5% Online 3% Gas 1% Gro
The only question for me is when to re-apply.
Sallie Mae caps are monthly caps, not quarterly.
Right. My mistake with a typeo. I meant monthly.

Ok, well I decided to hold off from even the Freedom card for quite a while.
Doing a little more research I'm reading that others are getting denied due to "Length of credit history" and AAoA not being long enough at over 1 year. My AAoA is barely ~2 months.
I may grab a Barclays card to boost my total credit limit and put my TU CR to use. Not entirely sure yet.

I contacted PNC via secure message, and selected "Request a Co-applicant".
I asked if adding someone as a co-applicant would backdate in the same way that authorized users do, and display that person as a Joint Applicant from the date of opening on a credit report. (PNC Card was opened in 2006)
Im not sure about it, but no harm in asking. And maybe Chase would consider it part of my history instead of overlooking it.

Sallie Mae Rewards would help a bit with the Groceries and Gas, which you mentioned in the original post.
Or just get a second BCP card, I suppose.
Ok, I applied for the Freedom again and got the 10 day message. Not 7 - 10 days, just 10. *shrug*
Im going to call in tomorrow evening, though I'm feeling a little nervous about calling for the third time after two recon attempts on my first application. Good news is that they pulled my TU report, and my CS FAKO on there bumped up to 808 (signature now out of date), though im not willing to pay for a refreshed TU FICO - either way im at least happy they pulled my best report.

So I'm guessing that PNC did backdate the AU accounts as your AAoA in your signature is significantly higher than what you put previously in this thread. With the AAoA of roughly 3? months now (Chase not taking into account the AU accounts with other lenders), that is likely why you got a 10 day. From what I've generally read Chase likes to see at least 6 months of use on your own cards before considering apps. It never hurts to recon though
Good Luck.
BTW my AAOA when I applied for a Chase Freedom was exactly... 8 months. They gave me a Visa Signature card
That was on 11/20/13
Good luck.
It been a while since I posted on this thread.
After being denied just four months ago due to limited credit history, having no luck with two recons, trying again with less than 2 months of a true AAoA (knowing that Chase prefers at least 12 months, minus AU accounts), then getting a full 10 day message rather than a 7 - 10, it seemed like a nail in the coffin. I was discouraged.
I decided to wait for the hard mail and today I got it, but threw it on the table right away. It was very flexible, and thin as a leaf! I knew there was no card inside.
About 10 minutes later:
"We recently received an application for a CHASE FREEDOM Visa Platinum credit card reflecting your name and social security number. The security of your information is very important to us and we need to confirm that the application is yours. If we can confirm the validity of this request, we will then continue processing your application.
Sincerely, Fraud Department"
"Platinum" credit card, so a credit limit may have already been determined. But "continue processing" sounded as if it didnt mean good news.
I was very unenthusiastic when answering the questions (the Rep sounded the same way), but after doing so, her tone changed - my tone changed - and I was APPROVED @ $2,000, whoo!
I wonder if I can return the gas I bought today. I need that 5%!

Congrats! Be sure to update with how returning the gas works out
