Success with USAA with only a 682 EFX!!

I just want to say USAA is great! Ive been a member for 3 years but never subscribed to any of their  banking products. I was reading in this forum how lax they seem to be very good about giving new credit out at the moment so I had to try them. I have a EFX score of 682 (just checked) and my oldest account TL is BoA (2yrs-9mos) two inquires at the time (USAA only pulled 1 hard inq. for the two below apps) Credit Util. 48% (EFX). I applied and this is what happened:

Credit Card Application

So I got gutsy and applied for their Platinum Mastercard right after the above app approvial and this is what happened:

Wow!  Super Congrats!  Jeremy's buying the next round!  Smiley Happy  I had determined that they would be my next move (hauling, I promise no time soon Smiley Happy  )

If you don't mind me asking, can you provide a brief run down on what your CR looks like?  What other TL's you have, any derogs, age of accounts, how old your newest (previous to USAA) account was?

Yeah, he probably would have around 700 "before" apping.  Now with new inquiry and 2 new accounts, chances of 700 probably will have to have some aging.

Re: Success with USAA with only a 682 EFX!!

Yes, keithc, I think you can, depending on how long ago you separated. USAA keeps changing its eligibility around, but here's the current version:

Membership is open to:

* Active-duty officers and enlisted personnel.
* Children whose eligible parents have or had a USAA auto or property insurance product.1
* National Guard and Selected Reserve officers and enlisted personnel.
* Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).
* Former military personnel:
o Retired officers and enlisted personnel.
o Former officers and enlisted personnel who separated from the military on or after Jan. 1, 1996.
* Former USAA members who had USAA auto or property insurance.

USAA / Become a Member / Eligibility

I'm also reasonably convinced that my husband has a membership number as well, dating from the first time that we had auto insurance, many years ago. So there appears to be some additional family eligibility beyond the adult children bit.

Re: Success with USAA with only a 682 EFX!!

Sorry for the temporary threadjack, but I just want to clarify membership.  My father is 67 and was an MP in the army many moons ago. Would he qualify for membership, and then as his daughter I could qualify?

Re: Success with USAA with only a 682 EFX!!

Did your father retire?  It appears there are some date ranges which are listed if not retired:  "separation after on or after January 1, 1996."

I separated in October 2005, but was all ready with USAA because of my wife (daughter of warrant officer).  So, I had insurance with them (still do).

However, when we log in, I do notice that I am the "spouse" of the member and not showing as a member on my own.  I tried to "join" but when I entered my SSN it said my "access is restricted" and to call the 800 number.  So, I am going to call and see what my actual status is.
