Suggestions on closing/combining Cap1 Secured Card

Hi everyone! Here is what I've been thinking about the last few months or so. I have a non graduating Cap1 Secured Card stuck at $200 that I got back in June 2015 and paid the $99 deposit for. I've never been late, missed any payment or any of that fun stuff but my only bugaboo on this card comes from being ignorant understanding the ebb and flow of how long a charge can be in the "Pending" column and one fuel charge was released earlier than I expected and I went over the limit. This shows up on the high limit line of my reports right above the credit limit and I believe this is hurting my report somehow. Anyway, unfortunately for me, this thing will never graduate or get any love from them in the form of CLI. So, this is what I've been toying with doing. I also have a Platinum card with a $400 limit through Cap1 (just upgraded today to QS) waiting for my first official Credit Step CLI next month. Should I combine those two cards and be rid of that glaring $200 toy limit card? Here is a list of the cards I obtained since the two Cap1 toy cards:
Fingerhut -$700
Discover it Chrome - $1600
NFCU cashRewards - $4400
PenFed Power Cash Rewards - $9500
AMEX Green Charge Card

Anyone have any thoughts of the best road to take here? Thanks for all the wonderful advice and words of encouragement on this forum! Before I came here, I couldn't finance a pencil with my credit!

Re: Suggestions on closing/combining Cap1 Secured Card

Last I knew you couldn't combine a secured card.  Have you tried asking for a CLI on your QS?  It used to be that you could get a CLI before Credit Steps, then after Credit Steps you would have a six month wait for the next one.

With the cards you have I would probably just close the secured and get my money back, it's done it's job and you have some good cards.

That was my other plan. I just didn't want that to goof up my AAoA or if it even will? I'm still learning how everything affects each other. Thanks for the advice!

You'll keep the account age for 7-10 years, until it drops off your reports. You've got enough other cards now you'll be fine.

Even if the CapOne card were to drop off your report tomorrow (which it likely won't), the thing has to be closed. Whenver it drops, your account age stats won't be affected in a major way. I'd close Fingerhut too. That would still leave you with five cards.
