Suntrust MasterCard questions

I financed a truck through Suntrust a few months ago and since then they have been begging me to open more accounts with them. I’ve ignored them for the most part but one for a MC got my attention. It’s 5% on up to 6k for groceries and gas for the first year then 2% afterwards along with the first 15 months at 0%. The rewards are not great after the first year, but they did also say they offer an EQ FICO score with the account. This is really the most attractive to me as I don’t have any other one that offers EQ for free so I do need that.

i have not seen anyone post about Suntrust so not sure if I should come out of the garden again to get this or not. Does anyone have any thoughts on this bank or card? I did used to have checking at Suntrust, but an issue with identity theft and them taking a couple of months to refund over 5k left a bad taste in my mouth and was the main reason I stopped banking with them, so I am still hesitant to do much business with them.

Started Rebuild 4/2018: EX 616| TU 604| EQ 621

Current 5/28/20:

First Goal Score: 750+ Reached 3/2019

Re: Suntrust MasterCard questions

hi

i have a suntrust auto loan account and nothing else.

Yes they pull EQ & SamsClub pulls TU with the very same benefits excluding Eq score. Sams club Synchrony is easy to approve suntrust is not.

suntrust & BB&T are merging by Jan 2020 so if you haven't yet checked BB&T this maybe as good a time as any to check them out.

Goodluck.

I have had SunTrust MC for about a year. I did not have a banking relationship with SunTrust prior to obtaining the card. I cold app-ed in the branch at the time. My recommendation would  be to apply in the branch if there are any questions as branch bankers appear to have some sway and seem to have the power to help obtain a higher SL, wich is different from some other banks (at least that's what the banker I worked with told me).

Everything has worked fine; however, no auto-CLI after one year. Now I am debating whether to request a CLI, which will surely result in EQ HP. SunTrust is known to use Equifax for most of their credit card decisions.

As others have mentioned, not sure how the upcoming merger with BB&T will affect SunTrust, I have cards from both banks.

Overall, solid experience with SunTrust so far. One minor detail-- if one does not have the usual banking products with them (e.g. a checking account), the process for setting up online account is a bit tricky and took talking to 5 separate customer service reps.

Thanks!

Re: Suntrust MasterCard questions

Thanks for the info. Good to know they are tough to get into and that they pull EQ. The only negative mark I have left is on my EQ score which is a small medical collection that somehow slipped through the cracks. Perhaps I should just pass this one by and continue to let my other accounts age.

Re: Suntrust MasterCard questions

I have the Suntrust MC.  It's a decent card, not my go to though.  I app'd and got a $9K SL.  No complaints. Shortly thereafter, I opened a checking and savings jus to build relationship as it is a big bank in Georgia.

Re: Suntrust MasterCard questions

I do see the value of a free Equifax score, as I wish I had a card/account that did that, however if a bank took a couple of months to refund 5k to me I'm not so sure I'd be jumping to apply for any of their products. If you do open it after the first year it doesn't seem worth it to really use it but maybe just holding onto it for the Equifax score would be the move.

Re: Suntrust MasterCard questions

Is SunTrust restricted to certain states? If not, it might be a good back door into BB&T before they merge.
