I recently got a Amex BCP card. First of all, was surprised at only getting 2,000 CL with my scores and income. Asked for a CLI on activation and said I would find out in 7-10 days. Still haven't received a response by mail on their decision, but called in and was told it was declined.
I also requested an additional card for my wife as an AU upon activation. Received the additional card after about a week, and they had terribly misspelled her first name. Called in immediately to request that it be corrected. They rushed delivered another card, this time with the first name correct, but did not even put a last name on the card. Just called in today again, and said a replacement would be here on Monday. Hoping 3rd time is the charm.
The CL is not too big of an issue, as I know Amex will grow with you quickly after establishing a relationship, but I have been shocked at the lack of attention to detail and customer service I have received. Dealing with Discover has been much easier with better results. I am hoping that these experiences are not typical.
Funny, you mentioned it. Six months ago, I opened a BCP with an additional card for my wife. When you received second card in the mail (mailed seperate), her last name was incorrectly spelled. I was pretty mad, since I triple checked the online app (instant approval, 25k CL) which was spelled correctly. The situation was quickly resolved with a single phone call and a new card arrived shortly.
I am into my seventh month with amex. When I went on the site today, it is showing preapprovals for zync, gold, gold premier and a large banner for platinum. Not really interested in these at this time. We are putting approx 2,500-3500 monthly on this card so far. So things after the little error have been great so far. My wife & I have pristine credit, of approx. 21 years each.

So far (3 yrs) I have not experienced anything but positives with AMEX! I'm hoping the same for you since it started off a little Rocky. My DH and I were just talking this morning about how computers have glitches. Seems like the glitching just happened to you as I doubt a person is making the cards.
Good luck and enjoy your AMEX!

+1. Have had my Amex for almost a year and have been very happy.
In my view, any endeavors in life--whether personal or professional--isn't without error.
We've all made mistakes especially something as easy as mistyping a letter, the computer transposing data erroneously, or the inevitable human error. To hold anyone or company to perfection is unrealistic, in my opinion.
Customer service is about how quickly the errors are rectified. Innocuous clerical errors happen all the time; I judge them on how quickly and efficiently these mistakes are rectified.
Good point!
