Surprised.

That you don't need a new account number when you get upgraded to Visa Signature.

Just thought you had to have a new account number so Visa would recognize it, but I guess not!

Nope. I had an old card from 2012 that was recently PC'd to a QS Visa Signature. That card started out with a $500 CL, then through cli's went over $5k and I PC'd it to the present card. That card, thanks to some account combining now sits with a 21k limit. The best news is that not only is my acct number the same, but the card is backdated to when it was first opened, which looks pretty good. I have a nice limit card with some age.

Nice! What's your apr for that card? I started with the journey card so mine is still 19.99%....

My card started out as an MTV card and was changed to a Journey card, when they discontinued the MTV. So MTV to Journey to QS VS. APR is 17.99v, but that's a temp limit for the next 6 months, which I negotiated. Regular is what yours is. But I have a 0% BT offer with a 2% fee for 18mos waiting in the wings. I haven't really cared about interest rate because it's not a card I carry a balance on, or if I do, not for very long.

It's 6 one way and a half dozen the other as far as assigning the tier is concerned.  Yes, they could assign a new account number for your Signature or they could just flag your existing account as Signature.  Given that the new account number involves the hassle of closing out an old account, creating a new account, issuing a new card, etc why should all that hassle have to take place versus flipping a switch?  Granted, most of that hassle is on the creditor and not on Visa but it is the creditor that determines your eligiblity for the Signature product.

Re: Surprised.

Which Creditor?

I have a couple of cards I would like to Upgrade, but haven't yet located in the Forums how best to go about this.

I assume going through EO versus new online application?

Ahh I see. This is what I didn't know. Seems simple enough.

Per my original post, capital one.

Yes, through EO's email.

Re: Surprised.

"Back in the day" an upgrade from 'Classic' to 'Gold' required an account number change, as the BIN was different, at least with CitiBank.

It seems now that instead of using the BIN to determine the level of benefits they have it down to an account number level.  I feel fortunate to not be the administrator of the database that tracks that, but at the same time it's much more convenient for us as customers since the transition is now seamless.

Enjoy your new benefits!
