Switching a user from AU to Joint - Is it possible?

I added my DH as an AU on several of my CCs last year when we got married.  He has a BK7 from 2003 and has had lots of trouble getting new credit.  His most recent rejection was from Capital One in January when he replied to one of those "pre-qualified" offers in the mail.  Why do they tell you you're pre-qualified and then reject you?  Talk about digging the knife in even deeper.

Unfortunately in addition to the BK7 he has multiple collection accounts (some as recent as 2 yrs ago) and some other derogs for late payments.

His FICOS (from ScoreWatch) right now are:
TU-661 / EQ - 615 / EX - 656

The only open CC on his CBRs IN HIS NAME is a 2 yr old Orchard Bank card with a CL of $600 on it.
I'm worried about what will happen to his FICOs when the CRA's stop using AU info on the CBR's.

Is there a chance that he might be able to become listed as joint on my old CC's that have him listed as an AU?  I have CCs with Chase, Discover and AmEx.  Do any of them entertain the notion of switching someone from an AU to a reposnsible party?  If so, does DH have a snowball's chance in hell of becoming a responsible party at this point, even though he was turned down for a Cap1 CC only 5 months ago?
DH's FICOS: July '08 TU-661 / EQ-593 / EX-656 --> April '09 TU-730 / EQ-705 / EX-685

MY FICOS: July '08 TU-735 / EQ-727 / EX-767 --> April '09 TU-789 / EQ-774 / EX-767

Chase and Discover will convert to joint, but it will involve a hard pull, and possibly a change in terms to something less favorable than they currently are.  The change in terms would, of course, apply to both accountholders.

Amex does not offer joint accounts at all.

Re: Switching a user from AU to Joint - Is it possible?

I couldn't care less about any change in terms.  I use that account and PIF every month.  I've never paid a dime in interest.

I'm more worried about whether DH would get rejected again.  He really takes those rejections hard.  Maybe I should wait to see if I can clear up more of his collection accounts before trying.

I would work on PFD'ing the baddies he has now then reapplying. Time heals all wounds so tell him not to get discouraged.

Re: Switching a user from AU to Joint - Is it possible?

I talked to Discover today.  They're sending the paperwork so I can get DH as a joint user on my Discover card.  Hopefully his credit score is good enough for them to approve the change in status.

Re: Switching a user from AU to Joint - Is it possible?

What about Citi?  Does anyone know whether they're amenable to switching a user from AU to joint status?
