Synchrony Aggregate Exposure

I just wanted to give everyone some insight to my recent experience.  I searched and saw this posted deep in another thread, but it may be of value to some others.  I currently hold the following cards with Synchrony:

Amazon Prime (limit was $25k)

Lowe's (limit was $35k)

Sam's Club (limit was $31k)

(and now just added) Rheem (for a new A/C unit, limit was $9k)

I have been playing the utilization/available credit game and these cards appear to be the most generous of all with extending credit.  I called today to get a limit increase on the Rheem card from $9,000 --> $25,000 and was told it wasn't possible because I had hit the Aggregate Exposure of $100k with Synchrony.  Fortunately, I was able to move some from my Lowe's and Sam's Club lines toward Rheem and move them all around to $25k limits each.  No financial review, no dreaded blue envelope, just a good customer service rep who helped me out.  YMMV, but for me, I was told $100k was the max that could be extended in aggregate by Synchrony.

Re: Synchrony Aggregate Exposure

Synchrony card accounts have a tendency to balloon courtesy their generosity and can quickly reach threshold so Kudos for you OP for bringing this topic up as reminder to others in the community NOT to go overboard.

I actually closed (2) of mine in advance couple of years ago that i really did like a lot, PayPal Extras MC/Amazon, just to keep the rest within a reasonable exposure with them.

Re: Synchrony Aggregate Exposure

Yes, it has been known that Sync has a 100k limit on all cards.

But I never heard of them moving limits around between cards, that's news to me.

Re: Synchrony Aggregate Exposure

Good to know regarding the $100k in total exposure related to Synchrony accounts.

Do we believe this $100k constraint is standard across the board, or is it a function of income?  It would be odd that someone with say $50k income would be limited to the same amount of total credit through Synchrony as someone with $500k in income, for example.

Also, is the limit on any one Synchrony credit line $35k?  That's the most commonly discussed high limit that I see on these forums, but I'm not sure if it has been exceeded.  Perhaps with IV?  I'm not sure, but would like to hear about it from anyone that knows.

Re: Synchrony Aggregate Exposure

One thing that is known about the $100K limit on Sync cards is that they will NOT move CL around between accounts

BUT, if you are at $100K, they WILL let you ask for  CLD on a card or 2, or 3... to bring you under the $100K, and then do a SP CLI on the card that you need raised... It's not really transferring CL to a different card,  it's more that you are going under the max by CLD, and getting a CLI on another card

NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!

It seems to be $100K for everyoe, no matter what the income is.

The highest line thats been reported is $35K, most commonly on Lowes

Perhaps this policy has changed?  The OP specifically references having moved around several of his CLs across his Synchrony accounts.

Re: Synchrony Aggregate Exposure

Good to know. Glad I'm under that threshold. For my credit profile with Synch, my ceiling is $10k/ea. on WM and SC. It is locked for anything above that amount. They mailed me a letter explicitly telling me this. My full exposure with them is $56.5k. Which I am leaving @ that and not touching. Until I shut down Belk.
