Synchrony Bank Card Close?

I have had a Synchrony Bank credut card since July of this year, and I wanted to know how long should I keep it open before I close the card? I barely use it.

If you have no use for the card, no point on keeping it open. I'm not sure what other cards you have but your AAoA already took a hit when you opened it. You shouldn't  close it if it will cause your overall utilization to increase.

Re: Synchrony Bank Card Close?

It's a card for medical bills, but if I close it should I wait until the card reaches a year mark, or close it right away?

If you do not use it close it.

What does the rest of your credit profile look like?

If you have a very thin file or are rebuilding, I wouldn't close anything in a rush.

If you have a few good cards and decent credit, then closing might be more reasonable.

I have a few cards. About a 706 overall right now.  I have a Bank of America card. A Barclay card, and a Target Red card.

If I were in your shoes, I'd keep it open and just let it go inactive if you don't end up needing it again. 706 sounds a bit low to be in a rush to close cards.

For optimal UTIL, at least half of your CCs should report a zero balance (many here recommend only one card reporting a balance).   That being the case, I'd recommend leaving the Sync Bank CC open and SDing it.

Re: Synchrony Bank Card Close?

I'm in general agreement with most of the folks here saying just leave it in the SD.  I'm assuming the card you've got is Care Credit; if that's the case, there's always a chance you could use it again in the future (I just used mine last week for dental work).

There's no AF, it's already impacting your AAoA, and there's very little chance of 'fraud' on a card like that, so I honestly see no compelling reason to do anything with it.  After non-use of a year or so, some folks on here report Synchrony closing the account anyway.

Just my 2¢.  Smiley Wink
