Re: Synchrony HP for CLI Request Thread

I've requested tons of CLI's on my Sync accounts via chat and credit solutions, but none of the requests have ever resulted in a HP. Well I decided I would request a increase on my Ebates card via chat, the chat agent told me that the request would result in a HP. It could be a misinformed chat agent, but I backed out since I didn't want to risk the hard pull. http://imgur.com/a/hZ6iK

Very informative thread UncleB. Don't have any SYNC cards so I can't add any value but it's good to know if I do decide to get that Credit Care.

Re: Synchrony HP for CLI Request Thread

  • What is the card type? (i.e. Amazon, Lowe's, etc.) RainSoft (Home improvement/Water Softner)
  • Approximate date of CLI request (rough estimate is OK; i.e. month and year) May 13, 2016
  • Was the CLI request at time of approval or later? 18 months after account opened
  • Which credit bureau got the HP? Trans Union
  • Was the CLI request through chat, 'regular' phone CSR, or Credit Solutions? Transferred from CSR to Credit Solutions
  • What was the original SL (or for older accounts, CL before request), how much did you request, and was there a counter? Original approval $6K, With CLI I requested $12K, approved for $14K with CLI
  • Was the request approved or denied? (tells us about denials, too, if there was a HP) Approved
  • Any other information you feel could be helpful.  She just asked for Income and if I owned my home, and how much did I want. No other questions or disclosures given.

Care Credit is a bit of a different 'beast' from the other Synchrony offerings.  Smiley Wink

It's unique in that when you open the account they will ask on the application how much you would like to be approved for; some of the other more obscure Synchrony cards might do this as well but I'm not aware of it.  Some people have reported being approved for more than this amount, and some for less, so it would appear that it's simply a guide for them.  On my own app I requested $10k, and they approved me for $8k.  I knew my procedure would run around $2k so this worked out well.

It's said that if you apply in a provider's office and let them call in for you they normally tell the Care Credit rep how much you need, and many times the approval will be for just enough to cover the transaction, leaving you with a maxed-out card.  Most people agree that it usually turns out better if you app on your own from home, although there's also the chance if you're borderline for approval having the provider call with you in the office might (?) make a difference (of course that's speculation).

Also notable about Care Credit... people have reported that if you call Credit Solutions about a Care Credit account they simply refer you back to the main Care Credit number; they are unable to help with Care Credit accounts at all.

Does Synchrony now issue RainSoft accounts?  All I can find information on are Comenity, but the website seems to be out of service.

Things change quickly so it's hard for me to keep up!

This is GREAT to know, thanks. Now I'm not sure if I want to even get CC. I'm sure they would close me for non activity anyway because I only want it for one thing. I'll know more of what my options are next week.

Re: Synchrony HP for CLI Request Thread

DW has a Walmart MC that she had me ask for a cli through chat the other day.  I went through the motions but the chat agent had a different way of handling it than in the past.   I did the same as poster above.  I asked if it would be a HP or SP on credit and the chat agent said HP.  Again, they could have been wrong and not know the difference.    But the chat session was quite different from previous cli requests via chat.  I didn't proceed because she is trying to garden for better cards later this year and didn't want to take a chance.  Just a data point to add.

Valuable intel there ^^^... thanks for sharing!

It could be a change in the script, or it could be a change in process - which would explain some of the one-off HPs we've been seeing lately.

It will be interesting to see if this behavior from them becomes a trend...

Yes Synchrony does the RainSoft. When the salesman from the RainSoft dealer sold us the unit he said "The Bank" was Synchrony the same bank that does JCPenney." Youaked earlier what region I am in, 45 miles south east of San Francisco, area is called East Bay or Tri Valley where I live, in Northern California.

That's an awesome data point - thanks for sharing with us!

Like I said, things change so quickly it's hard to keep up - that also explains why the Comenity site is 'down'.

It's well-known (at least to us) that Synchrony does Amazon, Lowe's, Belk, etc. but there are tons of lesser-known partnerships out there as well.

If anybody has data points on any other lesser-known Synchrony accounts, specifically with HP CLIs, please share those as well!  Smiley Wink
