Re: Synchrony Locked Me Out

Happened to my brother.

Call them and tell them you want to make a payment online and not over the phone and they will unfreeze the login. If they don't and all you have is paperless settings, take a screenshot and document the time called. Then you can go to CFPB website and there is a section where you can complain that you are not being allowed to make a payment through the site that you agreed to have access to and they would give you access by going paperless. They unlocked my brother's account a week later and they actually called him after CFPB forwarded the complaint to them.

Thank you everyone. I will give an update once I receive the letter. I havent been on the forum in quite some time so I didn't know if was a common issue or just a few here and there.

Please do. I've been interested in the PayPal card when I decide to leave the garden one of these days, but I'm concerned about the Synchrony "blue letter" stuff I read about here.

One possibility I haven't seen in the thread yet - is it possible that you have fraudulent changes to your credit report - an identity thief opening up accounts in your name - that concern Synchrony? I don't know how closely you pay attention to your credit report changes, but wanted to toss that out there as a (horrifying) possibility.

Funny you say that. I received a call Saturday which I missed and didnt notice I had a voicemail until just now regarding this letter. I have a freeze on all of my reports, so there shouldn't be any new applications in my name. I will be checking my reports today just to be safe.

The only cards that have a balance is my Walmart & Stash. These cards have always had a balance though which I use and pay every month. Nothing has changed with my cards or the limits. So frustrating.

Thanks lady2011 for clarifying on that.

It's hard to gauge sometimes what particular instance triggers those events so any data contibution might can help others steer clear of crossing some line.

Some time back i closed a card (PayPal Extras MC 10K) i really liked and used a lot in order to draw down from maximum exposure. With the way increases come through hard and fast from them sometimes it doesn't take much to near it.

My question may be slightly off-topic but still pertinent - how do you know when you're coming near to "maximum exposure"? Is there a guideline such as "x% of your annual income" or something?

Re: Synchrony Locked Me Out

I feel if it were fraud, only one account would be locked.

Synchrony has always called me when they suspected fraud.

Re: Synchrony Locked Me Out

I don't get why theres a problem saying folks should weigh the options when they get the 4506-T...... Lexis/Nexus isnt known for having overly accurate data that they mine and has had mistakes in the past... There are privacy concerns and if the op embellished their income, they also better off having the accounts closed or closing them than filling it out... There is a privacy vs security issue involved.... And if the op is self-employed... You dont hear a lot of Sync accounts reopening even after submitting the 4506-T... so theres also that.. is it really worth it?  Hopefully all said and done its just verification. But if its not. its not a choice Id take lightly...

All,

If you have advice and/or suggestions for the OP, great, please provide.  If you're chiming in to scold and/or push your views of Synchrony/Lexis upon others I ask that you please refrain from doing so.  I don't want this thread to go down the typical hole that Synchrony threads seems to go.  If the OP chooses to provide such information to Sychrony/Lexis that's their choice.  Please don't ridicule or question anothers reasoning because it's not that of your own.  Questioning the reason for the cards and/or limits isn't usually isn't relevant either.  Remember, they don't owe anyone an explanation for their actions.  Thanks for your understanding.

BurgeoningHope, max limit with Sync is 100k across all cards. Seems the higher the exposure the higher the risk for the blue pill sometimesSmiley Wink

Re: Synchrony Locked Me Out

Update: I got the Blue Letter.

I'm really on the fence about a 3rd party having my financial infomration; however, I have a balance on my Walmart card that I wouldn't be able to pay off until next month. I shop at Wal-Mart for everything so they are the reason I am leaning on sending the information.

I have the following Synchrony  cards:

Shash - $25K Limit ... I think I have a $4K balance

Ebates - $4800 .. I think I had like a $150 balance (easy pay off and close)

Care Credit - $1000 Limit..I think I had like a $500 from my pet visit last month (I can pay that off and close.....It does come in handy with my dog Smiley Sad)

Walmart - $25K Limit..I think I had a like a $3K balance...my mom put some spending on it  so I'm trying to get that down

Amazon - $5000 Limit..I think i had like a $500 balance..(easy pay off and close....I love my Amazon card though)

Lowes - $35K Limit...I think I have a like a $8 balance from a purchase I recently made (easy pay off...I was planning to look for home next year so I had this card for this exact reason)

Funny, I dont think my JCPenny card is closed. That one has a $5000 limit but no balance.

After reading through the forum...looks like it could go either way for this letter.
