Re: THIN file

Why did you go for Amex Blue? Was your friend pre approved? With such a thin file I would have just gone for a charger.

Re: THIN file

He was declined both... Amex has been known in the past to issue $1-3k for very thin files I was shocked actually!

Re: THIN file

Got it. I just caught Blue. I'd still add a store card over Credit One Smiley Happy

Re: THIN file

Your friend is opted in? If I were cold apping I'd go for a synchrony card before Comenity.

Re: THIN file

Truth. I would only go with Comenity through the SCT.  Of course these days it's only a soft pull if you are performing SCT for a store card, not a VISA/MC.

+1

If your friend has a score in the 700s - even low 700s - he should be fine for a Synchrony store card; they might even approve him for the MC/Visa version (if there is one for the store he applies with).  The good thing about this is even if he doesn't qualify for the MC/V version he could still get the store version (with the same HP).

I got my Sam's Club MasterCard with a score in the low 700s.   Smiley Wink

SCT for Chase Amazon. Worked for me years ago when I had a tax lien and no cards on my file.

I could be mistaken, but I don't think there's a SCT for either the Chase Amazon or the Synchrony Amazon card at this time... at least not for me.

I would love to find out I'm wrong, though... this would be greatSmiley Happy

Banks with wells and usaa
Divorce doesn't effect credit but the need for credit with new apt and what not is now the issue!

I also bank with both USAA and Wells; FWIW I was able to get in with a USAA card long before I ever had a prequal with Wells, so your friend might be wasting his time (and a HP) if he apps with Wells right now.  (I'm not saying you were suggesting this; I'm just sharing my own experience.)

Since he's with USAA, in a pinch he might consider their secured card.  I agree that it's not ideal (since unless they have changed it will never graduate) but it would give him another account to report if that's his goal right now.
