TU Deleted BK7 from Report by Accident - Caused Major Problem

My Chapter 7 BK was recently discharged.  I had a dispute filed with TU because they still showed it open while Equifax and Experian had it as discharged.  In under a day of filing the dispute I get an email from them saying it's resolved.  Instead of correcting it and showing it discharged they completely deleted it!   My score shot to over 800 and suddenly I had $200k+ of credit line with no utilization because it also removed the "discharged in Chapter 7" flags from all my credit cards.  Major problem.

I figured it out when I applied for a Mission Lane card and was turned down for "Number of Established Accounts".  Prior to the BK I had about 15 cards total.  Most were zero balance but everything was closed.  Because Mission Lane pulls TU they had a completely incorrect report.  It looks like I have plenty of credit cards when I really have none.

I called TU (twice) and ended up talking to someone who said they can't unsuppress the BK on the record (I guess it's "suppressed" when they delete it?).  She told me to write a letter and they'd have to see what they can do.  Meanwhile I'm opening a secured card with my credit union so I'll have a card.  I was really looking for a second card though so I have a mix.  I reaffirmed my car and my house too.

Has anyone run into something like this before?  Suggestions?  What do I do if TU can't or won't fix it?  I actually had one TU representative tell me "well it looks better if it's not on there, right?".  Sure it does.  Instead of 620 my score is over 800.  But it's not right.  Sigh.

If anyone has recommendations for a good second card I'll welcome it.  I was with Capital One 20+ years and didn't burn them in the BK.  I had a card with them that they closed.  I'd hoped to apply for a Quicksilver card but I'm not sure what type of score they want.

So did any of your CCs show as opened or are they all still reporting as closed ?   There are many creditors who only pull TU so you could try applying with others if you're looking for an unsecured card for now.

Cap1 pulls all three CRAs so they'd see the BK on your other reports.  However they're generally fairly lenient with approving people who've filed BK, even people who've burned them before.

Also I'm going to move this to the credit cards forum for better visibility.

As pizzadude mentioned, look for lenders such as Penfed and Truist that only pull TU ( regionaly dependent )  .There are others.  I get your dilema but not having a BK on any one of the CB's is a good thing. Also, have you tried Cap 1 's prequal ?  Discover and Apple card too.

Re: TU Deleted BK7 from Report by Accident - Caused Major Problem

CapOne prequel showed me a couple cards, but my EQ and EX scores are around 615.  I'm not sure they're high enough for a non-secured card.

I did apply for an Ally card today and was approved.  Unsecured and $1000 limit.  It was recommended on the Experian site so I took a chance.

Re: TU Deleted BK7 from Report by Accident - Caused Major Problem

TU deleting the BK hit MyFico today.  196 point increase!  LOL.  At least Experian and Eqifax got it right.  Both jumped about 20 points with the discharge.

Don't do Cap1 as they normally pull multiple bureaus. Would be a waste of time.

Re: TU Deleted BK7 from Report by Accident - Caused Major Problem

Cap1 approved me this morning for a  $3000 Quicksilver.  I had a 20+ year history plus two car loans with them.  They pulled TU and Experian.  I'm thinking my long history with them helped and I didn't burn them in the BK7.

So I've got Quicksilver MC, Ally Visa, Target RedCard and a secured CU Visa card as of this morning.  Four applications and four approvals (not counting the Mission Lane issue) .

Now for two years of keeping utilization under 5% and gardening.  With the reaffirmed mortgage and Ford Credit car loan I should be good.  A decent mix.
