Transunion is reporting my current address at an address I haven't lived at in 10 years. Luckily it's my parents' address, so I don't have to worry about credit card fraud or anything. I didn't think anything of it until my parents gave me a "pre-selected" credit card offer Capital One sent to their address for me. Should I bother to change the current address? How do I go about doing that? As my credit score goes up, I do want the pre-qualified offers to come to my real current address.
DO you have any open and reporting TLs on TU? TU will report whatever address your creditors report to them. If anything is reporting monthly, you should update your current address with them first. If nothing is reporting, then contact TU to see what you need to provide them (e.g. utility bill, DL, SSN). If you add a new CC, your address will automatically update on its own. Per CC pre-approvals, I don't think there's an impact. We opted out after we bought our first home. I never updated my address with the CRAs since it was automatic (EQ was a stickler for a while), but we still accepted pre-approvals without issue.
I had no idea that the addresses are automatic! Thanks for that info! I have a student loan that has the correct address (and I've lived there for a year now), so I'm not sure why it hasn't kicked in yet. I just opened a store card that just started reporting, and a Capital One card that should start reporting any day now. I got those two cards last month. So hopefully with those two additions, the correct current address will kick in soon?
Interesting development: I went to dispute it at the TU website, pulled up my report, and the current address is actually correct and says it's been reporting since I moved last year! The TU report I pulled from myFICO last month had the wrong current address somehow. Furthermore, why did Capital One send the offer to the wrong address as well? Hmmm.....
Well, at least I don't have to dispute anything!
