Re: Target CLI Theory May Have some Truth

What is considered a "high" CL for the Target card? I've read through the forums of the meagar SL so I never bothered with it. We do go quite a bit because it's so close and I finally was worn down and app'd and got a SL of $2k. Thought that was decent for the card but wondered what's the highest people have heard? I just had my first statement cut and have been letting the balance post to see if any CLI's are to be had.

Mine just went from 2500 to 3500. I use it a ton though but I never let balances post.

Re: Target CLI Theory May Have some Truth

I think TD Bank is finally just giving out CLIs, and the data points are all over the place.  Mine was opened in 2002 (can't remember who the original issuer was) with a $1200 SL when I had a very thin file.  It changed to a Visa at some point soon after, then it became a Target Bank card around 2005 or so and I randomly had a CLD to $800 (no other AA on any of my other accounts, I have never been late on any credit accounts, FICO scores always in lower 700s).  It changed from Visa to MasterCard at some point and from Target Bank to TD Bank, also.  I just always assumed this would stay a $800 card, and I would just use it every now and then when going to Target for the 5% off.  I started putting about $150-350 on it once a month back around April and PIF each month.  Out of nowhere I got a CLI to $1300 on my June statement, and a CLI to $2300 on my December statement.  I had seriously been thinking about cancelling it since the CL was just insulting, but always kept it for the AAoA and the few bucks off when I do go to Target.  Hoping that they will at least keep this up every 6 months.

Re: Target CLI Theory May Have some Truth

I got my card Nov '15 with SL $300. In June, was increased to $1,000 after spending $200 the previous month. Can't remember if I paid it off or updated income. Since then, nothing. I started reporting a balance and updating my income for two months and was increased this month to $1,500.

Re: Target CLI Theory May Have some Truth

I can't remember where my Target started (closest Target is 100 miles away, so it doesn't get a lot of use.  Then again, EVERYTHING is 100 miles away, so I get there as often as anywhere else).  It was converted to a MC and has a $5k limit (had two increases). I think I have had the card just a bit more than a year.

I let the current purchases post, but then pay the statement balance in full on or before the due date.

The CL was pretty stagnant for a long time, but this year it's gone from $500 to $1500, then $2500, and last month to $3500.

No rewards outside of Target, so the MC doesn't see the light of day outside of Target.

I was going to garden... Honest!
