Mine is upgrading in August. They sent me letter stating my Target card will be converting and boosted my credit line to 1300 from 600. I am seriously considering not converting it getting out of debt is my main goal at this point and the MC makes it's easier for me to get into debt. I usually spend 100 bucks every few months at target then PIF when the bill comes.
I would keep it open can only help your profile. Curious how long was your account open ?
I just got the letter too that mine was upgrading to MasterCard in August. I've had the card three years and my CL is $7500.

Remember who controls the use of credit cards - you.
Yes, the MC is tempting in a tight situation, whereas the store-only card doesn't have that temptation. I picked up the Target card when it was a Visa but after the rewards for non-Target use were discontinued, so did my use of the card outside of Target. It looks like Target is starting to offer some promotions, such as paying utility bills, but for now my Target MC only leaves my wallet if I'm at an actual Target store.
For that matter, I don't even use the Target MC at the pharmacy counter anymore. After the CVS takeover of the department, pharmacy purchases now earn no rewards on the Target MC. I use Target gift cards at the pharmacy register now.
The change from a store card to a Mastercard may look beneficial to other lenders; they will have no idea whether you use the card outside of Target.
My letter says the the upgrade date is 8/23, who knows when they will ship it.
I don't think I want the upgrade to be honest. unappealing card.
